What does Ford think the Maverick is for?

This is on the Maverick page on the Ford site. What's Ford marketing shooting for here? I don't have the literary prowess to summarize my confusion with this pic.

I mean look at it, unibody, IRS, a 4ft bed....its obviously not to be taken seriously as anything close to a truck to be used in the traditional sense.

There are so many dysfunctional unprepared bits in that picture.

At first, I thought it looked like bleachers in the background and a retaining wall behind the Maverick. The woman with the laptop made me think “test and tune” night at the local drag strip. BUT… why would the laptop be at the rear of the truck? Why would anybody take a Maverick to the track? What’s all the blue glowing light in the truck bed? Why is there some guy with a skateboard walking around the track? Where are the spectators? Why does the girl in the skirt look like she has scoliosis? Why aren’t there other vehicles around?

Notice how they are in a city scape. No dirt roads or mud to sling. Nobody is overlanding or fishing. What you do see is a skater kid, a Bluetooth speaker and a girl DJing. They are trying to sell the truck to city dwellers who don't want an oversized lifted or squatted F-150 that takes $20 in gas just to park.

I remember when the "new" Ranger was released, almost everybody said it was too big to be a Ranger and Ford should have called it a F-100. So Ford built the Maverick. Simple as that.

The Maverick isn’t a truck anymore than the Ridgeline is a truck. It can do some truck things but so could an Elcamino and no one even thought about calling it a truck.

I will agree that the new Ranger is too big. Building a beefed up unit body platform with a FWD based drivetrain and a dinky bed didn’t address the issue.

Id trust an El Camino/Ranchero to do more truck duty then a maverick.

I use my lowered Ranger way more often than I use my F150 for large/heavy items. It’s a matter of convenience… the F150s tailgate is 38” from the ground, the Ranger is just shy of 18”. It’s just easier to load.
People are alway talking about 8’ beds for full sheets of plywood and Sheetrock. How often are you people replacing Sheetrock?!?! If you’re using your truck for construction work, the Maverick probably isn’t the right truck for you. If you’re delivering auto parts, you may want to look at a Maverick. (I say look at, because you can’t order one anymore.)

I was talking to a 63 year old retired guy about his Maverick. He loves it. He can’t lift things high because of his shoulder, he can’t lift a lot of weight because of his bad back, but he still does work around the yard. It’s perfect for him. It replaced his aging 4th Gen Ranger.
