What does everyone think about a electric chopper motorcycle :)

Id rather have one of those pedal bikes fitted with a weedwacker motor
That sucks it got stolen. Ive thought about building one.

I've considered it too, but I think I'd have to use electric over gas. I've got a 29in MTB that I bought several years ago and don't ride. I've considered buying a kit and converting it. One of my hesitations is that I don't want to be stuck with only a bicycle that has motor, if I want to pedal bike I don't want to be dealing with the added weight and losses of the motor as well.

Though about buying a new pedal bike, I understand that WM has a very nice MTB with good upgrade paths available for a good price. If I bought one I'd be a little more willing to convert the old one, but that is money I could spend towards other projects. Also my local WMs tend not to have the good stuff in stock so difficult to see in person. Rather buy online for delivery and assemble myself, but still like to check it out in person.

I've considered it. But the po-po don't like it. These "Worksman Mover" have options for electric front drive wheel. Pricey tho.

I'm not sure about that. The idea sounds good, but I'm picturing the 220v 5hp compressor motor I'm about to be playing with. Seem a little large for a bicycle frame. I'm not that familiar with elecric motor sizing, so maybe there is something smaller with that rating for use in a situation like this.

I assumed @rusty ol ranger was talking about gas.

I was :)

Im not sure if a bike frame would handle 5hp honestly...im sure youd need to really upgrade the drivetrain too. Unless thats already part of the kits...i dont know.

But gas or electric 5hp (or more) on a bicycle would be bad ass

Probably right. 5 horse would probably work out better on one of those home built trike deals.

Actually I think people already do that, put go-cart tires on it, and call it a drift trike.

Never seen that.

What about one of those adult tricycles?

I got a old horizontal 5hp tecumseh sittin around that ran when parked

That's what I showed a pic of. Its in my yard now. I have some 6 and 7 HP gas engines. For electric easy enough to pick up a free treadmill and use the motor... well, easy for someone else maybe... Lol

I didnt see the pic lol

Most electric stuff is 500w, 750w, or 1000w...and usually 48V.

Motor location also varies. Sometimes its in the frame or located in one of the wheel hubs. In my beach cruiser the electric motor is in the front wheel hub, batteries in the frame. The rest of it is regular bicycle, and it looks like one too....which is why I chose it. also not heavy at all for what is it. Maybe 35 lbs.

I've seen some crazy DIY builds on MTB frames. They are impressive numbers wise, but have a lot of stuff strapped on and sticking out.

The gas conversions dont use 5HP HF motors, you guys are nuts lol. Think smaller. like yard equipment sized 2 cycle.

I guess 5hp could be done, but by that time the weight would offset the performance. Kinda like that big boss chopper bike (or trike) that has a chevy v8 in it. Its more of a statement than a rocketship.
