What do I need to do to fit a 94 2.3 into a 96 Mazda

The 96 after 300,000 plus miles finally gave up the ghost. I got a good deal on a 94 2.3 low miler knowing it doesn't have the same setup for the crank position sensor. I thought I could just swap them out but I wonder if there is more to do? Any other sensors to swap out? Thanks for any help.

I did just the opposite. I put a '98 2.5 into my '93 Ranger. There were considerable modifications that had to be done. That being said, putting the older motor into a newer vehicle is going to be next to impossible. You have to use the newer style piece that holds the crank sensor but if I recall correctly it will not even bolt onto the older motor. The older motor also does not have a cam position sensor (nor anywhere to mount it) unless it is from California.
The newer intake ports and water jackets will not match the older head so you would have to use the newer head but then you won't be able to mount the front accessories because the bolt holes are in different places.
The oil pans are different. You have to use the older pan with the older motor so that means using the oil dipstick tube and dipstick off the older engine but it will not bolt to your newer intake.
Honestly, even if I already had the '94 2.3, I would find a '95-'97 2.3 or '98-whatever 2.5 and it will bolt right in.
