What did YOU do today?

IDK about from home depot, but a local gravel supplier will happily sell you half a bag or so. Might be worth asking.

Laid in bed sick all day.. although yesterday was much worse.

Gave me some good time to finally start playing the remastered Oblivion though 🥳🥳🥳 sometimes sick days are fun. Just gotta work tomorrow and Wednesday and then I have 4 more days to wander around Cyrodiil 🤗

. In the end, it's going to need an alignment by a shop to get it totally correct.
i eyeballed it and took it in for alignment check and they said it was pretty damn close and gave me a print out on what direction it was barely out at, and i corrected it one rotation in that direction and i think that is as prefect as it will g3t.

For the clock spring, there should be videos on Youtube that will take you step by step. Too detailed to put in a forum post.
from the sounds of it, its mid-level diy-mechanic skill-level repair but there is significant risk of death from the airbag.
..or at least not-insiginificant risk of death.

working on repairing these concrete seams for the skateborders this evening.

Took my son to the SAC museum in Omaha

Then on the way home we swung into the new Lego store

Then might as well hit Hobbytown while we are unsupervised as well.

Then went to a thrift store and found him a pretty nice 20" bike for $10

Not nessarally today. Its taken a few but I talked my buddy Scooter into a new Ranger Raptor. He picked it up yesterday afternoon. Now to get him on the forum haha

It can't go off if you disconnect the battery and as long as you don't break anything during the install, there shouldn't be a problem. Granted, the risk is never zero, but it is very low with the battery disconnected and chances are, if it's going to blow after the install, it will be while you are reconnecting the battery.

Is this the Scooter of Scooter's loop?

Yes you are. There are at least 4 of us now that are active in the area.

Got a few days worth. Maybe I mentioned that I got my second bad spot in the kitchen floor patched up, if not, now I did. Did that Christmas day IIRC. Couple of spots still to address, not to the point that I'm going to cut them out, more like they've just sagged a little. I'm going to reenforce them from the bottom, then fill with felt paper before going down with 5mm thick underlayment ply over the whole thing. First I'm taking a break for a few days/week.

Saturday was more or less my first Christmas gathering of the year. My sister wanted everyone over, then after I went and tried out one of the (not quite) local indoor shooting ranges. Was nice, non-membership rate only $20 an hour for two people on an lane, I can't go often enough to make membership worth the cost. Still not my kind of place, I'd rather be on an outdoor shooting range, but it was available and much clooser than the hunting club I've never made it to. More on that over in the firearms thread when I get around to it. Then a stop at the near by Bass Pro to restock some of the ammo I'd expended.

Then Sunday at Grandma's for the second gathering. After that it was a stop by Academy, Harbor Freight, and Home Depot. More money spent on ammo and stuff for the ongoing house project.

Yesterday was back to work and my quarterly dibetes appointment. That went better than expected. A1C is stable from last visit. Need it to come down some, it shot up a bit after dad passed this summer. I haven't done anything to really try and bring it down and with the house and work gatherings I hadn't really eaten right the last few weeks before the bloodwork. Glad that it wasn't higher, and it shouldn't be too hard to get it back to my normal once the holidays are passed. Was pleasently surprised that my blood sugar at the appointment was good and that my blood pressure had come back down to normal from last visit.

Then today it was back to harbor freight trying to spend some money. That was mostly while I waited on an order to be ready for pickup at the Advance Auto next door. New (reman) starter is now on hand for the F-250. Hopefully I can get that replaced tomorrow, and have it moving towards its new home by the weekend. I kind of hate to see it go, but it hasn't left the yard in over 6 months and I don't need so many vehicles. Fortunately it's only going to my brother-in-law so I'll be close if I need it, and I'll keep option available to get it back if he no longer needs/wants it.

Floor patch #2 in the kitchen is now done. Not early enough to follow through with heading to the hunting club, but it is done. Work went great, I just started too late to finish it up in time.

Kitchen area is pretty much done for the repairs. Got two more spots in that room that I want to take a better looks at. Don't think that I need to cut any more floor out, but I may want to reenforce between the joist from the underside. Just to stiffen it up some. Once those are acessed and addressed, I'll carry on with putting down the underlayment in the kitchen before moving into the utility room area. Might have a couple of spots in there to cut out and replace. Unfortunately one of those spors may be under an exterior wall and corner of the back door. If that's the case it might be time to call for help. Patching the floor isn't a problem, but not sure I want to tackle those by myself. Even if I can pull it off the time involved doing it solo might be an issue.

If you have soft spots, putting in a few braces underneath is a no-brainer. If the wood got wet, and it has deteriorated at all making it soft, remember you can mix up a thin mix of oil based paint or shellac and work it into the wood. Yes, you can use rustoleum, even though it’s wood, but you want to cut it about 2/3 mineral spirits to 1/3 paint. It will soak in everywhere and when the mineral spirits flash off it’ll stiffen the wood fibers.

Just a thought

Well, I guess I did mention finishing the second patch last week.

Thanks, I'll try to keep that in mind for future projects (or parts of this one). I think what I've got left in this area is more like sagging, not soft and moving like the previous two spots. Maybe where it got wet in the past and dried back out.

I am rather sensitive to variations in the surface I'm walking on, atleast when it's supposed to be a flat surface. I can even feel the roughly 1/32 variation between the patches and old flooring, and that is through my shoe soles and the carpet squares I have laid over it. I think what I'm noticing in these other spots is more the variations in level, than actual soft spot.

Going to get the braces, then the felt to shim up some before laying the thin ply over everything. Also going to completely cover the subfloor with the felt before laying down the thin ply, it'll serve to eliminate squeeking and act as a little bit of a barrier. Between the thin ply, the padded underlayment, and the flooring I put down, it should remove or mask any variations in the sub floor. I do still need to figure out the right way, or at least the most practical way, to attach that thin ply to the sub floor.

To think I almost tried to use 23/32 instead of 19/32 that matches the existing flooring, it would have been sticking up 1/16" or better. I probably could have feathered it out with sanding and leveling compound, then masked the rest with the stuff mentioned above, but I probably still would have noticed the high spot when walking through. It would have driven me up a wall.
