What did YOU do today?

im towing a 1500lb trailer, 500lb in the bed, about 500miles.
2.5l mt 2wd yr2000
staying between 4th gear 54mph on flats and 3rd gear 41mph on inclines.
...2nd gear, 30mph over mountains.

seems like sometimes i get stuck between between 3rd gear at 3300rpm and 30% 'load' or 4th gear 2200rpm and 60% 'load'.
which is worse for truck? high revving or lugging engine? i try not to do either for extended periods of time

Transmission wise 4th gear is best as it is least amount of load on it, the engine doesn't care either way and at those engine speeds you aren't going to notice a fuel mileage difference, throttle response wise I would favor more engine speed... I mean cruising flats go for low engine speed and downshift when power is needed...

Well, F-150 got a new U-joint in the front axle (the old one was quite crunchy) and I topped off the transfer case. There’s still a big list for that truck and I could use some new axle seals as I found out today, but the discovery of glitter in the t-case tells me that more work to that truck on things I don’t intend to reuse on the rebuild is pretty much throwing good money after bad. So, 4x4 is functional for a questionable amount of time. Emergency use only. On to the next thing.

Wish I could pick up something a little more solid for temporary use or even better a parts donor for the rebuild, but people have gone dumb and the price for a trashed OBS is stupid. I’m a little salty about the situation.

Well, the 2011 is down. I think it is a spark issue. It wants to try to start but can't quite get there. Once the rain stops, I'll start troubleshooting to narrow down what the issue is (spark, fuel, air) and then figure what is not working right.

Hopefully, it still won't start when I get at it. It's and intermittent issue and seems to fix itself if left alone long enough.

If by chance it does start, I'll leave it running so I can get it in the garage, out of the weather. The trailer suspension pieces and the saw horse table will have to be moved out of the way and the trailer parked out on the street.

So, the battery got replaced on the 2019 to make sure known problems with it are taken care of. The battery was down to 11.8 V after sitting for a while. So, it was definitely on its way out soon.

It would be nice if things would stay running long enough so I could put the carport up. Then there would be less need to shuffle things around in order to fix things when they do break.

Man, sounds like everyone is taking a beating lately

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one with that luck... the last several years I haven't been able to get far enough ahead to be considered behind... or something like that...

Got home a while ago with the sheetrock, grabbed a box of joint compound and a roll of paper tape. Heading out shortly to do something productive, maybe do the caulking around the plywood seams, I didn't grab any primer tonight, didn't want to waste too much of Jeff's time, we only got 50' into the store to get everything we got :). As with everything I do I'm winging it... youtube university and asking friends... Oh I did make the smart decision to put the drywall on sawhorses, easier all around, glad I made some not long ago...
