What did YOU do today?

Went camping most of last week over in the sand dunes for the annual guys trip, was a good time, I didn't break anything significant other than the steering box outlet started leaking pretty good... the high load vibration I feel from the rear could just be the traction bar doing it's job now that I think about it, it feels like it's coming from the area of the front shackle mount area...

The F350 did develop a vibration at under 40mph, seems like it's coming from the passenger side, I expected the worst like wheel bearings so took the last couple miles slower but the front hub was cold, it was rainy so I didn't investigate more...

I'll do most of the rest of the unloading tonight

Made a stop by my material pile after work to cut myself a piece of steel to start fixing the ranger frame with, and acquired a spool of mig wire from my buddy for the same purpose. Hell yeah. It's nice having things to look forward to on the weekends again.

Got to work on the dump truck again. Things are happening.

Got the Ranger off the trailer and the stuff out of it and unloaded the coolers that were in the back for the most part, still have to dry off the salt water jugs and get them back in the freezer (works great). Also remembered that the drivers window in the Ranger is screwed, does NOT want to roll up but you can just push it down, I have new window seals and wipers to install anyway so I guess it's about time to get on that...

Also on the F350 one of the rear speakers shorted out, got half way to the destination and the radio quit and said check wiring, I'm pretty sure I changed the front speakers a couple years ago but I'll pull the stereo out and check the resistance on all of them for good measure... Backup plan for background noise was the phone in the visor with the cord draped over the rearview mirror, worked ok but not ideal obviously...

Headed to the indiana line tomorrow to pick up a used bush hog, when I got home I started getting ready. Trailer hooked up, chains, chain tensioners (theres a word for them but im at a loss for it, has a lever & a chain hook on both ends) straps, spare tire for both the trailer & the escape. Wouldn’t you know it, no left turn/brake. bulb good, power to socket. So I rummage through a back cabinet & find a couple new in box light assemblies. Put it on and have a working turn/brake/tail lamp again. Stupid metric bolts though.

Well made over to first camp and setup. Starting out our Georgia Traverse trip. Gonna explore till Sunday.
Now I'm laying in the cot listening to it rain. Looks like the thunderstorm is gonna split and run north and south of our camp. We will get rain all night. Hopefully clear off for some good days adventuring.

460 there I see.
Yup, it has a drinking problem… over two quarts of oil per tank of gas (120 miles). Valve guides are shot and core support rotted so it’s getting an overhaul

If you leave the engine running, the exhaust will pump heat into the tent.

Drove 3.5 hours to Alabama yesterday for a 1354M. Got there and it was 1354E. 7 hours wasted. Then when we got home, the power was out and so was wick for the lantern. Tea candles provide very little light.

Drove a lot today. First went to my daughters as its her 30th birthday, then back home to get my escape & the trailer to make the 4 hour & change drive (round trip) to bring home a good used 3-point mower for a steal ($300) Not sure of the brand name but looks solid. Used a whole tank of gas for the trip, figured I could at least use overdrive on the trip there but it kept downshifting at any incline change at all so I just pushed the button to lock out overdrive, really was going through fuel where I could go 70, running 3,000+rpms. The escape did well overall, the other escape we have with the V6 would of been better but the rust underneath is concerning enough that I don’t think I should tow with it anymore. Mine has just as good of brakes and thats the important thing.
