What did YOU do today?

Yesterday I stripped out a nice "roller" equipment cabinet at my local metal scrap yard. Took about 5 hours to get 95% of everything removed. But now I have some good bones to work with. Decent casters as it rolls around like a dream. No china junk detected...so far. Was a piece of medical gear, now a chassis for a wet 24" lapidary saw with storage doors. Next step is start in with a sawzall and finish removing the steel inner structure leaving room for a 18" deep liquid tight sump for the mechanical feed & drive assembly. Lucky for me there is a rigging company called Murphy Industrial Products, Inc. Anything & everything you need to tie down stuff on your barge, and / or other mode of hauling. Depending on my feed motor rotation, I may require a left handed lead screw & clamshell nut. Easy to find in hard galvanized metal as part of a turnbuckle assembly. I have a 5 foot tall (1 inch) turnbuckle I purchased from them to level my transmission tower. The cost was not bad at all.

Today still sore, as the rolling cart weighs 170lbs stripped. It rolls so good, (how good does it roll?) ....any undetectable tilt or slant on any surface it heads to the low spot when you least expect it. When I'm ready to start work on it, I'll screw down the included jack screws holding it in place.
Care to share any pics of this project? Sounds interesting!

Found a rock in the bottom of the my drain pan too lol.. idk how it managed to work it's way into the cooling system but.. it WAS purchased from someone who lost most of their teeth via drugs so 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ mabey it's crack?

Put it in a pipe and try to smoke it. If it’s a stone, no big deal.

If it’s crack, you’ll also think it’s not a big deal.

I'll take your word for it 😋

I finally started the remodel process on the house. Currently removing and patching all the old subfloors. It's tough work with a slight learning curve, but better to pay in sweat equity than pay the price of labor nowadays. Plus if I fall through the floor, I have no one to blame but myself LOL

I finished up the majority of the fence project on Saturday. I had to pull out way more bushes than I wanted to but it had to happen. I need to buy privacy strips that get woven into the chain link and do some raking/haul out brush but otherwise I'm pretty happy with it. Then I can start reassembling my junk pile.

We took Sunday off from working on projects and went bird hunting with my wife, father in law, and youngest son. He shot 3 grouse, I shot 3 grouse and two pheasants but I lost one - It dropped like a rock but it must have run off somewhere, we looked for a good 30 minutes and couldn't find it. All in all a great day though.

I decided to work on the “Shiftster” revived project . making a worm drive and “standard” crawl under the truck variants.

Adding again today, put on manual locking hubs , and cranked the torsion bars. I need bigger tires now. lol. Forgot to mention “Shiftster revived” I am making the “standard version” for both shorter screws and stock screws. worm drive will be the stick screws as well. For the 4wd yoke , the bolts are 1/4x28 x 3/4 but the tip is the last 1/4 . it’s really closer to 1/4x28x5/8 or 1/2 might make it.

Looks like an excellent day! I miss bird hunting. Pheasants are such strong runners it's dang near impossible to find them without a good dog. Even then they are hard to pin down. Sharpie season was always open before pheasant and they were much less sought after. I used to go out late summer and have everything to myself it was great!

They're definitely different on the table though. I hated eating them until I started kind of treating the meat like beef. I made sharpie fajitas once when we had company over, and also made some with chicken for those who didn't want to eat the wild game. The chicken was pretty much untouched and the sharpie meat was all gone!

Yeah, there are definitely a few grouse hunters out here but not like the pheasant hunters though. I like grouse hunting because I can road hunt and just about shoot my limit every time by myself without a ton of walking or a dog... that's really hard to do with pheasants. I think pheasants taste better but grouse aren't bad if you cook them right (like anything.) My favorite recipe is to brine the meat in pickle juice overnight, then soak for 30 minutes in buttermilk, bread them in flour, corn starch, italian seasoning, salt & peper and paprika - then deep fry. They retain a little pickle flavor and are nice & crunchy.

Pheasants are tough birds, a dog is almost a necessity to be effective. Grouse seem to die a lot easier and they are weak runners. A friend of mine calls them flying livers. If cooked like liver they come out pretty good! Pheasants are definitely more table friendly though; they're basically an imported chinese chicken.
