What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

I'm gonna have to look at the '92 in the yard at some point to straighten that out, I'm mildly curious...

I did change the starter and it started right up, I tried to jump the starter with jumper cables to break it in but that wasn't working for whatever reason (probably junky jumper cables for one). I was wrong, I needed a 3/8" wrench and a 17mm deep socket and ratchet, a 3/8" socket and 1/4" ratchet would have made it easier though but I was there...

While I was down there I think I found my front driveline vibration as well, the front pinion nut is loose...

my nice working on truck days already passed. yesterday the rain started again. its in the 70s but drizzly rain so no outside work again. we tried to get the wrangler back on the road because it had a frozen front brake caliper and had eaten the disk completely to the cooling fins but we needed another part. it should come tomorrow, but this dang rain.

It was a little slow at work today so I started rebuilding a front driveshaft for my truck, then I realized I was missing a part I needed to order (dust boot for the centering ball) and now I get to wait until Friday to finish it up.

Fun times, get halfway through a project and wait a minute, where is… phooey, I don’t have it, lol.

Looking at it while the shaft was assembled, it looked fine, it isnt fine, it fell apart. The nice thing is, it's a replacement for a front shaft in a truck that doesn't move in the winter, so a little delay isn't going to harm much

That’s always fun too, and whatever disintegrates is never in stock local it seems

It was too cold last week, and when it warmed up, I was stuck at the desk on a project, and it was warm today except we had that real light misty pain in the butt not really rain. Light enough for Lincoln to go out and play a little bit, But miserable for me because I’m fighting a little cold at the same time.

What did I do with my Rangers today? I went through all the to do lists. I eliminated about eight or nine items on the list that were completed for each truck, and then I added back in eight or nine items on each truck that I’ve discovered more recently.

It was barely in stock anywhere, napa could get it in 3 days but shipping was more than the cost of the part. Amazon will have it to me by Thursday for about 15 bucks less in total.

The winter daily (my 98) decided it wanted attention and blew a brake line on the way to work today, so I guess I need to mess with that. Ordered some copper nickel brake line, a soft line and some miscellaneous hardware to remedy that soon

So did you pinch off the line and keep driving?

Finished removing the exhaust I just paid to have installed.

Waited three weeks, paid nearly 1k in parts and labor, and having to rework it for clearance. Told the people when I dropped it off and later when I spoke with the "fabricator" that ride height was going back up, that I'd just lowered the rear end to set clearance over/around the axle for future lowering. Well back at current ride height (stock 2wd height) the "driver side" (on PS of truck, but DS bank of dual exhaust) muffler hit the driveshaft hard. Couldn't go up enough to clear, and staying down wasn't an option for now. Even lowered, if I jacked up the truck the DS hit the muffler.

Fortunately it seems that the bends and pipes the made are going to work, we just needed to grind off the welds, remove the pipes from the muffler, and reclock the muffler. Since I'm re-working everything I decided to cut the passenger side loose as well. That side is good, but hanger had to be cut to remove and removal makes working on the other pipe much easier. Going back together I'm going to weld the hangers to clamps instead of directly to the pipe like shop did. System will be removable for future servicing and alterations.

Also picked up a pair of 3.5" stainless resonator tips to finish them off. Not sure how it's going to affect sound. Still won't really know after, didn't drive it much between pickup and tear down, and we fixed an exhaust leak that they left. Hopefully it'll look better than the plain pipes sticking out, even if the sound doesn't change.

I'd like to say that it will be done tomorrow, but I'm back to the doctor for more eye injections. I won't be able to wrench for a couple of days after and I don't know how much dad will try to take the initiative on it. Honestly, I'm not sure if I want him to or not.

Its the rear line, front brakes still work, it'll sit in the garage until Thursday night when I actually have time to repair it. It'll be replaced with copper/nickel then so I don't have to mess with it again

Will this work?

When I built the Road Ranger, I added rear facing flood lights, wired to the reverse lights, but also added a toggle switch in the overhead console. All lights come on with either switch.

I want to add a reverse buzzer/back up beeper that only works from the reverse switch on the transmission. If I add a buzzer with a diode as indicated, will it work?
