What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

....a shed. verse many sheds.

more sheds.

more opportunities for miracles.

and definitely more opportunity to forget what the hell you have or what the hell it was you were supposed to be doing....

While on the drag racing thing, my friends daughter has a drag race chevy square body truck that she got on a whim and turned into a burnout rig with a big block (was a 6.2L diesel that was locked up) and then put it on a diet and has done drag races a few times. Don't remember what's been done to the engine but I know it's a 454 with headers, cam, 4bbl and so forth but yesterday she got it to 12.99 in the 1/4 mile which doesn't sound too bad for a full size truck...

If it's a regular cab shortbox.. even with the BB it should weigh under 2 tons.

Sounds like 350ish at the wheels.. what was the trap speed?

regular cab long bed 2500 with a FF 12 bolt in rear (welded), they took some springs out of the rear and removed the heater housing and inner fenders and whatnot, think it has a turbo 400...

I think he said it was 101mph

this is the easiest truck to convert to 4x4. it just bolts in.

I had no idea that it was that easy to donvert the full size TTB trucks. Is the 2wd frame really the same or that similar to the 4wd frame? On the rangers you've got different crossmembers, different axle pivot brackets, etc.

I guess it shouldn't be too big of a surprise, the BIIs are the same way aren't they? The 2wds using the 4wd frame and axle pivot brackets, they even have the dummy transfer case.

Test fit my brothers rear mustang wheels. Hits emergency brake cable on driver side hard. I think would look better with taller tires
I’m sure they would look and fit fine on my Ranger… :icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

I’d like to hear more about this because I have a good 94 F-150 2wd frame and my 95 F-150 4x4 has a not so good frame…

Today I ran a few errands in the Choptop. I was feeling rather lazy and it was parked behind the F-150, so I trimmed back the one fallen tree and off-roaded it through the yard by my shed and out onto the street. When I got back, I went in the same way I came out. Even with an open rear diff and no 4x4 that dumb thing just works…

there are differences.

but in concerns to ttb..... it is a minutes swap deal. really just the beams if you needed to. you can reuse steering, springs and even shocks if needed.

the rear 4x4 have 3 inch wide over the 2.xin springs.

there were 80 billion driveshaft scenarios so k member for hanger bearing and trans mounting and k member differential is a thing. the early trucks had 3 different t cases further complicating that. the 208 in two versions ... 1345....and 56 also in slip and fixed yoke.

but if i had a rotten donor configuration that matched bed, cab, engine, and trans. save for rear springs....straight swap. just move the floor plate or wiring and module for e shift t xase

Perfect.

The 2wd frame I got is minus springs and axles and minus drivetrain. Has a solid cab. Entire truck was identical to my 95 other than being 2wd and automatic instead of manual. I figured that if push came to shove, I’d straight axle it, but it’s not being built as an off-road rig. More as a capable work rig and I kinda wanted to keep the TTB for ride quality on the road. Mine is a manual t-case so no wiring worries there. Swapping pedals to go to a manual trans may be annoying, but whatever.

My intent (mind you, this project won’t be started until next year at the earliest, probably two years out at this point to be realistic), is to go over the frame, clean and reinforce key areas, probably use rust bullet or something on the frame. Long arm the front axle. Maybe do something to the rear axle. Both will get an overhaul (actually debating if I want to keep half ton axles or upgrade, half ton axles have been fine so far for what I do with the truck though). Rebuild the trans (ZF5). Refresh and likely do some work to the 300 straight 6. Seriously leaning towards building a custom bed. New springs front and rear. Basically upgrade a bunch of stuff and make it essentially a new truck.

Switched out the dated plastic nibs for a set of aluminum universal ones meant for guitar/music amps on Amazon. Wish I had a 3D printer to of just made nicer ones though

I was driving down the road the other day when I felt a couple quick surges and the engine quit. It would start up and immediately die. I checked all the connections but could not get it to stay running. After a tow home and a fuel filter change, I checked the fuel pressure and noticed how little there was. I guessed it was time to put in a new pump. Thankfully, Youtube reminded me that I just have to move the bed back a little to access the tank.

The ring came off and the pump out without issue. I looked in the tank and was relieved to see only a little debris. However, that is when I noticed another issue. Tell me if you can see the problem. 🤦‍♂️

Looks like a hole in the tank...

Also looks like I can see daylight through a scrap

I'm not seeing the hole, but the daylight looks like a reflection to me.

I'm assuming that he thought there was a bunch more gas. IMO dropping an empty tank would have been easier than moving the bed. That would probably point to a bad/inaccurate fuel level sender.
