What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

I was worried about the wires when I put mine together. I found some like 8” long covers that were rated for being in contact with headers. Took some wrestling to work them on the wires but I’m pretty happy with how it worked out.

Welcome to the Bronco II addiction, lol.
Its really funny....cause i actually orginally bought it planning on flipping it (as in selling, not doing B2 things) but yeah...thats not happening now. My wife was a bit pissed lol.

I wont lie...part of me wants to take the B2 and the jeep to the ORV park and do a comparison video...then post it on that jeep forum im on.

Not that the GC and B2 are even in the same class....but those guys over there carry a deep hate for FSB's and B2's....and it would be fun to mess with them lol.

Got a link? Next wire set will be custom and I'l like to put on a nice long set of sleeves. Something better than the el cheapos that I got off Amazon in a pinch.

Lol, my first Bronco II was not exactly what I wanted, but more an accidental purchase. It was up for EBay auction back in the day, the owner was a member on here, and I put a low bid in. Turned out I won. So then I thought about maybe doing a few things and flipping it. That didn’t happen either. My 1988 Eddie Bauer was my first. Bought my Choptop, an 86 for parts, an 89 EB that I did flip (and regret selling), and an 87 for parts. I’ve been hooked on the crazy little things. Stupid capable off-road. I’ve upset a few Jeep guys with mine over the years.

I’ll have to look it up. I did a lot of searching before I got them. Mine came from Summit Racing. Apparently a lot of the sleeves are not actually rated for header contact. Mine are.

Finally got around to changing the O-ring on the power valve for the power steering pump. I no longer have a power steering fluid leak.

One leak down a few to go.

Replaced the drive belt and the thermostat (finally), managed to lose and then find one of the housing bolts. Removed the lower rad hose to replace, only to not be able to find the new one I bought a few days ago....

It's been a marathon... the reason I haven't posted in a while is I've been too busy fixing things on my 2003 FX4 Level 2. Got the truck ~ 10 months ago and it has been reliable, but since February I've fix/replaced/repaired the following:
  • Replaced radiator hose clamps (the lower clamp failed and dumped the coolant).
  • Replaced the power steering cooler (took the cooler from my 2002 2wd and installed into the FX4. Then repaired the leaking cooler and installed it in the 2002).
  • Replaced the starter (a $#%&! job with the 4x4 front differential in the way).
  • Repaired the battery box
  • Replaced the battery
  • Replaced the A/C compressor (old one seized up and would not turn)
  • Remove A/C compressor mounting bracket to extract broken bolt
  • Replaced the automatic transmission neutral safety switch
  • Repaired the Over Drive on/off switch
And now I'm troubleshooting a parasitic draw on the battery. That is this weekend job

Cheers,
IronTom

Green Ranger got unpacked.

Choptop got moved from my property to my parents right next door. Pulled out my new plastic gas tank for it, the filler hole was a little off-center so I cleaned that up and the hole for the vent was too small, so I resolved that and put the new bushing and vent in. Got the pump and vent disconnected from the old tank and couldn’t get a bolt to come out. Ended up cutting both tank strap bolts and both front skid plate bolts. Got three of four rear bumper bolts out. Gonna try getting vice grips on the last one tomorrow, if that doesn’t work I’m cutting that. Then I have to cut the back two skid plate bolts and I can drop the old tank. Was intending on swapping the pump but there’s some ugly rust so I made a call and a new sender will be here in the morning. I already have new bolts. Hopefully it will be driving again tomorrow afternoon. Then I get to do a slave cylinder in the F-150.

swapped all the wheels between my '05 2wd and '00 4wd to isolate vibrations.
the result is the KO2s 30/9.5-15 now on the '05 2wd have a slight front shimmy, resonate vibrations
at 68-73 and mostly smooth at 80.
unfortunately the 2.3 manual definitely does not like those larger tires, have to hold the gears a lot longer and it's
struggling at 75+ to keep the speed up.
haven't taken the '00 with the problem tires out yet. they are Firestone Destination Le2 235/70-15.
they really collect small stones, maybe that's why I can't keep them balanced.
currently have 3-4 ounces of beads in them, I'm thinking that might be too much.

i found a guy selling his hurst shifter assembly for a really decent price. i am thinking of making the 3 hour drive to pick it up tomorrow.

i was really looking for the fx4 lvl 2 shift lever but i can live with that, the hurst, or the core. i am not super particular and whichever came up for a good price first is the one i am going with, so it looks like hurst.

all i know for sure is i was not going to pay 3-500 dollars for any of the shifters. i don't care how rare the fx4 shifter is, i am not paying over 150 for just the arm.

this guy has the whole deal for 180 which is about 220 cheaper than anywhere else i have found.

I got the E150 accidental buy running today. Runs great. I went through the manuals for the AC kit for the strangler to make sure I'm up on doing the install right. I didn't know the AC compressor needed to be set on it's pulley for a certain length of time to prevent the front seal from leaking refrigerant. Glad I read those destructions first.

First time since Monday I worked on the '90 Ranger is tonight... got the last bit of welding on the passenger side radius arm done then bolted it up along with the radius arm mount for now, then unbolted the drivers side so I could weld it up and got some of the welding done there...

The radius arms look pretty good, I need to go to the hardware store soon and pick up some fine thread 1/2" bolts to bolt everything together... oh and some fresh paint, I'm about out of everything that I bought like 12 years ago :), so long ago that the primer cans all have the tubes fallen off but still hold pressure so I have to spray them upside down...

Might be able to get finished this weekend which would be nice, I have other projects to get moving on like putting a floor in the boat...

Got the hurst shifter kit for 125. Even came with the hurst boot. Just no knob, unfortunately

I'm not sure what kit you bought, but every time I install anything from Hurst they get renamed Hurts, because of the injuries to my wallet and my body from the install. :giggle:
