What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Got the '97 back from the boss today, I didn't get home until 10pm last night so just went home instead of the extra half hour to his house... he drove the '97 to work, apparently it drives good but the drivers seat is worn out, it's out of a '94 so yeah, I knew that

I'm not sure if I updated anything one here in a while but I replaced all of the steering parts tie rod ends etc and did the 95-97 twin piston brake upgrade.

Did some tinkering on the '90, welded up the brackets for the side of the frame (will need trimmed by the time I'm done), took some measurements to avoid tires hitting the radius arms and think I have some things figured out, we'll see if I can get a good portion done this weekend...

Yesterday I went and got some food and tried to open my tailgate but one side would not release so I just popped open the bed cover and stuck them in that way. So today I popped the gate open and removed the cover to find a rod clip had broke. $7.50 later it's fixed and I again can open my tailgate.

Not bad for a 30 year old truck. Age got to the clip and it became brittle. Pretty sure they were originals though it makes me wonder which clip will be next.

Dropped the fuel tank, resealed the fuel pump with a new locking ring of a different brand that fit slightly better and reinstalled the tank. Now... off to bed.

After being a bum most of the day, the weather cleared up about two and it actually became a beautiful afternoon and evening. So I started the prep to bring the Road Ranger to the Carlisle Nationals in ernest.

I was feeling pretty lazy, but I had already been thinking to start at the nose and work backwards on whatever issues. I’ll write it up under that thread.

The other “first thing” I’ve been working on is just cleaning up and clearing out my driveway so I can disconnect the trailer and turn it around. I figured out how I want to put a tongue jack on the ‘Raith, so I’m going to do that as a last step for now on that project just to make it easier to move.

Went to the Eastern Shore yesterday. The truck managed just about 24 miles per gallon with the air conditioner on, averaging about 55 mph. 430 miles on the tank, 18.0 gallons to fill. Filled last thing before the trip and made it to the gas station near home afterward without the low-fuel light coming on. Not bad for the thirsty V-6 with 152K miles, which it turned over during the trip.

After it stopped raining, I put straight bleach in the foam cup on my pressure washer and coated The Road Ranger to loosen up four months worth of tree sap, maybe six months since the last wash. Then I climbed all over it like a monkey, getting into every nook and cranny, hosed that off, and then put a little white vinegar in the foam cup, and hosed it off again.

It was a real pain in the ass cuz some idiot ran all kinds of bars over the roof and behind the cab and lights everywhere. I also almost forgot that it was red.

Then Sweet Pea wanted me to take some stuff to Goodwill. I wasn’t sure it would fit in the Missing Linc, so I washed Ole Blue (88 town car) and used it since it’s got more room.

If you were a little bit closer, I’d put two or 3 quarts of Rustoleum in the truck and a couple brushes and rollers, and we’d do those trucks…

Probably need one of those 20lb or whatever size jugs of bondo too....otherwise we'd bascically be blotching the frame lol

Heated my torquemonster headers and bent #2 tube for clearance of #3 spark plug wire. New wires, n plugs. Test drive was fun.

I was worried about the wires when I put mine together. I found some like 8” long covers that were rated for being in contact with headers. Took some wrestling to work them on the wires but I’m pretty happy with how it worked out.
