What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

So I’m about to make a post in the V-8 swaps about the cam timing stuff, I need some help figuring this out because I can’t seem to find enough specific information on it…

Still on the fence on what to do about the timing cover, I’m worried about leaving it as it is and I’m scared of potentially breaking the cover trying to get it back off after breaking the original…

As long as it is sealed up, I would leave it on there. You can trim up the gasket a little if needed.

It's too late to do anything with cam timing if the cover is on and you don't want to take it off.

It’s off by a heavy 1/16” or so at the worst, which is kind of a lot, but it looks sealed anyway. I gave it a good look over and it looks ok, but my luck it won’t be ok. Not sure some of the bolts will line up, looks like maybe a little bit off on some of them.

The cover doesn’t matter for the cam timing thing I’m talking about, it’s the little sensor on top of what looks like the bottom of a distributor, I can pull the thing out and clock lit like a distributor. The timing chain set had options to advance or retard timing 2* but I left it at factory spec

Gotcha...

In my world cam timing is timing the valve opening to piston position.

I got new skins: 31x10.50x15

Those tires give it a bit more attitude. I almost bought a set of those AT3's for my Ranger... I just couldn't pass the deal from 4WP for my Cepek Trail Country EXP.

You should bring that down to the Trail Ride next month.

It’s not just your world. It sounds like he’s talking about ignition timing, not cam timing.

I see you've corrupted your FIL with you your Ranger Shananigins

I was going to try and work on my trucks today... been raining all damn day.

I did make it out to Rural King today... they had more ammo then I've seen in one spot in years. So I bought a few boxes of 40 S&W... $21 a box.

I think there’s a different name for what I’m dealing with but I can’t seem to bring it to mind. I know the sensor that I’m dealing with reads the cam so the computer can read crank and cam and adjust when to spray fuel

You're dealing with cam sensor alignment... I have no idea how to deal with it and am curious since I have 3 of that era 5.0L and a couple of them are probably going to get screwed with...

So far today the only Ranger related thing I've done is move the '90 out of the shop so I could get the 4 wheeler out to drag a trailer and then a harrow and pallet around to flatten some dirt I spread today... I think towable ground implements are supposed to be pulled at speeds where they drift sideways when turning, right? :) that was the last pass, seemed to even things out the last little bit...
