I know this question has probably been asked a thousand times, but....

My passenger side floor gets soaked every time it rains. It occurs only on the passenger side. The firewall padding is also wet. Any ideas where it could be leaking water into the cab? And how do I repair the leaks?

my 2004 has been doing the same thing for the past 2 weeks so i'd like to know what's been going on...tomorow i'm going to have a buddy spray the carwash hose around and i'll scope out the inside. i'll keep you posted on what i find..:icon_confused:

your firewall is probably all rusted out in the cowl area. unfortunately all too common on the older trucks.

check out this link, i remembered for sure ZMan had done the work, i just had to look for it.

it's possible on the orignal post but i don't think it would be on a 2004 with 23,000 miles:icon_confused:unless they made the truck in meekeco..

sorry, not you. comment directed at OP.

Anyone know how I would go about this without having a welder? But that is probably where the leak is coming from. I just really hope it isn't and is just something simple like a wire grommet or something.

My 99 does the same thing too...

if it's not seen you could pop rivit some new metal in there then spray something like the sand in a can{ bed liner or rustproofing} over it.

if there's stuff mounted in that area then i'd do the welding in of a little heavyer peice of steel..

Best thing to do is pull the dash apart and inspect if from the inside...like the link Kunar posted, they rust out around the windshield support...

You may, however, have a similar problem to mine...my windshield is not sealed properly...but the only way to find that out is to pull the dash...and that's not actually as difficult as it sounds...

There are about five screws and a few bolts that hold the dash in...(once you take off the trim and other stuff) and they are pretty easy to access on an 88...but keep a small bucket handy and take pics of what you take off and where it comes from if you get confused easily because you will end up with a small handful of screws and bolts once you've taken it apart...

If there is no rust on your firewall or around the windshield supports then you can try the water spray since you will be able to trace it much easier with nothing obstructing your view...

Hopefully it's just the windshield seal...because the firewall is a PITA to repair, but it can be done if you really want to keep the truck...I drove mine for about two years after I discovered some major rust...only stopped driving it when the engine crapped out on me...

Thanks Mark

the older cabs had problems with the A pillars cracking where they meet the roof. chek closely for cracks, and you can used rtv to seal it. if you do have crcked A pillars all the watter in your roofline gutters tends to run into the cracked area when the vehicle is not moving.

Could I put some caulk along the outside of the windshield?

I would say if your not going for looks caulk should work for you. I had a leak in the seal around the windshield and an area by the roof of my Escort and sealed it with hot glue because I had no caulk and was sick of the water running in and soaking my seat.

Yeah I don't really care about the looks because the paint around the windshield trim is making it look like sh*t anyway.

I mentioned this before in another thread (Wicked_Sludge) about leaks...the previous owner of my current Ranger went to town with caulking trying to stop the leak that I found in the windshield...it looks like crap...and was ineffective to say the least...but if your A pillars are leaking it would work in that case...

It can be plenty of work trying to find a leak...but well worth it in the long run...
