Wet Passenger Floor...

The leak is coming from the heater core inlet tube area(the 20 year old foam), coming down to leak out of the heater core box. Any idea how to fix this leak? Do they make a spray?

Well, that is an easier fix than your firewall or even a seam...just replace the heater core...check that the hoses are clamped properly first because it could be backspraying around the hose and dripping in from there...but if that is not the case, removing and replacing the core is the only fix I'd recommend...they are fairly inexpensive and take about 20 minutes to replace even if you've never done it before...

Just remove the clamps from the outside firewall, undo the screws that hold the panel over the heater core, and pull it out...pop in the new one and something to keep it from wobbling around if the replacement doesn't provide this...then connect the hoses and clamp them on tight...then top up the fluids...

Total cost should be less than $40 even if you have to buy new hoses and fluids...

new heater cores are cheap.. i love that about rangers/ exploders..

The heater core is only about a year old, from when I replaced it...the replacement heater core did not come with the foam so I just kept the old one on there. The heater core doesn't wobble since I put some insulation that it came with. The foam is old and falling apart. I am going to see if the caulk I put around is going to help. If not, I might as well get a new core since it has a lifetime warranty.

I had the same problem with my '88 only it was the passenger side and the driver's floor getting wet. I thought it was the windshield leaking. It was cracked bad so I had it replaced. That didn't help. I took off my chrome trim around the windshiled cleaned it up real good and then took it back to the windshiled business. He thought it was coming from where the "A" pillar and the roof seam is. He put some urethane sealer over the seam and it hasn't leaked since. Didn't even charge me anything. He said it would be better to use the urethane sealer (same as what the windshield is glued in with) than to use RTV or caulk. I put my trim back on the truck and you can't even see the sealer.

It could also be leaking from around the top windshield. The urethane would get brittle with age causing it to lose it's seal and letting water to leak in.

The leak is not coming from the heater box, and I think the culprit is a rusty cowl. I will remove the fender tomorrow to see if I can spot any rust on the cowl.

Damn this truck has me stumped!!! I took apart my dash and my cowl doesn't have ANY rust whatsoever. The firewall padding gets soaked only when driven and only when it is raining, no other time does it leak. This truck is really pissing me off!!

Any suggestions?

And how do you take the trim around the windshield off?

The recirculating air intake for the heater had about 3 handfuls of pine needles and leaves when I checked it!
Is this related to my problem?
How do I get the leaves out of there? Tried to get them out from the hood with the blower motor out, but there is a piece of screen there.
