Well THAT'S a problem 05 2.3 2Wdr

Things are looking up. Finally got Engine "B" tore down. Feeling pretty lucky. Really needed the Block, Crank and cams out of this one. The Block is filthy but no obvious problems. The Crank looks great, minimal wear for 190K. The Cams were not so great. Both had moderate to severe wear. Especially the exhaust side. Both cams in both engines had the most wear on the very front journal behind the cam gears. Couple of photos attached. Very little carbon on either the pistons or the valves.

I'm reviewing mic'ing this evening, it's been awhile. I'm not sure about tolerances yet. I think because this engine and truck are going to be just a putter around I'm not going to be real picky. If the cams aren't out of round and the crank isn't out of round I'll probably rely on plastiguage for tolerance clearance on new bearings for the con and crank clearances. Always open for advice as I'm just a DIY'r. One thing that bothered me was I noticed two dimples on the top of #1 piston where the valves must have made contact. Very small. I'll have to give this some serious attention when deciding what to do with this engine. Buckets all looked fine.

Got some sobering news today. Went to my machinist who took on look at the head and piston. One rod surely needs replacing, the head is rebuildable but the crank is damaged without even looking at it. He told me for the piston to be nicking the head I'm sure to have bent valves, out of round rod and damaged crank journal even though it didn't even have scoring. I'll mic it anyways to practice.
