Weird weld on axle

Correct, I did not grind it down.

Well that's your first problem, always prep your surface clean to prevent contaminates to the weld. At first I thought you ran out of shielding gas (or had none)
You should be running about 200-265 ipm at 24-26 volts, with 75%/25%, I'm gonna assume your using duel shield , but looking at those welds I'm gonna say probley not. Being as MIG welding is low penetrating I would suggest you clean the base metal properly, and if you can, 6010 stick weld that with dual 7018 cover pass as that will give you 70k pounds of strength per inch of weld.

Mig will not hold these very well because I'm guessing your using ER70S wire. Switch to stick or duel shield (AWS A5.20; E71T-1M/T-9M) to do this right the first time.:icon_welder:

Sounds like a bunch of random numbers to me, I work around certified natural gas welders every day and they speak English better than that.

I use flux core gasless mig and recently switched from .30 to .35. I can't wait to burn this roll up and get back to .30 again. As much sheetmetal as I do it's my favorite.

So has the perch broken yet, or is it field tested ready? Haha

200-265ipm seems quite fast for my welding.

I do not own a stick welder, so thats not an option. I did a root then cap weld on it to help; but the welds shown are not structural for me, it is more peace of mind the pressed tubes won't move.

All joints thus far are good, I haven't seen any cracks yet (as of two weeks ago).

Luckily I had a spare housing to practice on that was junk.

I actually had to crank up the voltage a lot higher than I thought would have worked. I just wire-wheeled mine and hosed it down with brake cleaner, seemed to weld pretty good once I dialed it in.

It was over a year ago but I want to say a 7o or so on the wire-feed and the second to highest voltage setting.

Hobart Handler 187. .035? Solid core, 75/25 gas mix.

Noticed using brake cleaner to prep for welding mentioned several times. Some of you might have seen this, but for those who haven't, read this please: Brake Cleaner = Phosgene Gas

Yeah, I read that a while back. Its always in my mind when I'm preparing a surface, especially with cleaners.
