I have a lock cylinder under the tailgate ad right above the bumper on my truck. I don't have pics right now, but will provide if needed. My key does not fit it. Any guess so far?

It should do...thats how you get to the hoist for the spare tire.

It requires a special key (3-4 inches long) and last I checked my For ddealer could only get the lock and key assembly, not just the key.

big screwdriver and a hammer takes care of the lock

interesting, so if i unlocked it what would happen? the tumbler would fall out and i would have a place to put in the rod to lower the hoist? I wish I asked this earlier, just today I installed a tire winch (my ranger didnt come with one) and drilled a hole through the doy to get to it.

Ok, so I finally get it... the truck doesn't use a winch does it? I took one out of a junked explorer of the same year to secure the tire. It works fine and I'm not going to change it. Wish I asked this question earlier, thats guys, appreciate it

ahh who needs it.. take the torch to it.. lol

That's what I did to mine. The rear section of my frame was rusted out so I just cut that stuff out and welded a not so rusted piece in. If it's the same as an F150, you put the rods together and stick it in the hole and turn it and it lowers the tire.

My dad had a 2007 F150 XL and does not have this lock

On my 02 it is almost part of the winch itself, not really on the bumper. There is a hole you stick the key/crank thru in the bumper and it goes thru a snazzy little funnel thing into the winch.

Dunno how it is on the newer Rangers though.

My truck has the winch system. What was on your truck before the explorer tire carrier?
