so, basically, the truck starts, but dies out quick, seems starved to me, checking the usual culprits, when i went to pull codes via a jumper wire, i noticed that my EEC/ECM plug is similar but different from all the diagrams and pictures i see, I just need quick verification that the "odd pin" is probably the self test wire that is separated on most rangers. I have a feeling this engine came outta something else, and it'd be helpful to know what.

I just really need to know if that's the self test pin, and if it is, are the remaining pins the same, i need to finish testing my fuel systems while its not raining cats and dogs.

THANKS ALL!

As far as I remember the self test pin is that lonely, single wire with the same style female connection on it.

Where did you pull that connector from. Doesn't look like the test connector. Maybe someone spliced in a different one. Looks really new to have been in a 90 ranger.

That's where the confusion comes in. It may be a yard engine, its got some obviously Frankensteined wiring in the bay.

The connector was below my dash, just dangling from behind the trans

i dont recognize that connector, but its not the eec test connector. the one youre looking for should be under the hood on the passengers side inner fender

If my truck wasn't 3k miles away i'd post pics. That goes in the engine bay on the driver inner fender. At least thats where they are on a 94 2.3 and 4.0... and when i did eec tests with a multimeter/buzzbox i had to jump the pins in some order. Google eec iv tests...

Ok, I know the procedure, most the locations I've dealt with eec locations were right around where this one is, lol.

I was just unsure as this truck was previously owned by a jugallo or WTH they're called. I figured the wiring would be as bad as his tattoos

Yeah, that isn't an EEC IV self test plug. Especially if it is in the cab.

On a 90 it will be at the back of the engine bay on the passenger side.

Not there, not anywhere in the engine bay. That is the only visible plug anywhere that resembles in size and or shape, my plug.

The plug in the pic looks like its for the door chime.

Well that may explain why there is no chime lol!

Can anyone point me to a picture of the eeciv in its stock location on a 90 2.3l?

It should be attached to the main fuse block under the hood.

Brilliant! Found! However, do you think this just may be part of the problem? Or would the corrosion and debris in the plug not lead to a fuel delivery problem?

And how should I solve it? Replace the harness, or just install a yard plug?

Clean the plug and forget about it.

I severely doubt corrosion on the test plug will cause an issue with the fuel delivery system.

I would check fuel pressure and then when it comes up zilch I would replace the pump.
