WCB2 (Walnut Creek)

ive ran 3 welded rears every one of them broke then i ran a lockright and it broke so far the only thing that has held up is a mini spool. now that is in a samurai but it should all be relitave shouldnt it?

that being said im now swaping in a toyota rear and its been welded. i only did that though because if it works great, if not i was going to get a full spool which replaces the carrier anyways. so i figured its a chance to save $ but seeing that you already have the spool i say run it and if it breaks throw the stock diff back in and weld it.

and if it breaks throw the stock diff back in and weld it.

A mini-spool uses the factory carrier, just like a lunch-box locker does...A full spool takes the place of the factory carrier :icon_thumby:

yea i know im just saying that my mini spool is all that has held up. thats all they offer for a samurai and it defintelty does get beat on. ALOT. i only mention the full spool because thats all they offer for the new axles that im putting in

now then again the samurai carrier is a 4 pin... and i have broken cross pins with the lockright and welded.

i dunno about the rangers but either way i say run your mini spool you already own it. lol

Welding a samurai diff is completely different, they have an enclosed case so the only way to weld them is to fill in some teeth on the gears to keep them from spinning on each other which leaves slop in the system which will eventually destruct itself, a ford carrier is open so the side gears themselves can be welds to the carrier and the other spiders to make it all solid with no slop

yea i guess it is more different then i originally thought. i probally shoulda sat on that one a bit longer b4 posting lol. but either way my original point stands if you already own the mini spool use it. ive never seen one have any problems and every body i wheel with started out welded and ended up spooled

Well, while Jay lays up in the house from being sore from riding all day yesterday, I got a little work done on WCB2...
Last weekend I needed the trailer to do some hay haulin, so WCB2 had to come off the trailer. But where would I put the body...A plan quickly came about...

On to the work, didn't feel like crawling under the frame to pull the axles, so I made it easier on me...Anyone else pull axles this way??

Made it a lot easier to get to the RA bolts, as well as the beam brackets...

So, after about 15 minutes, I pulled the last bolt, the pivot beam bolt out of the driver side beam (Pulled the driver side beam bracket with the beam, passenger side was riveted to frame), the complete front axle went one way, the frame went the other!! I love how a plan comes together!!

Time for the rear axle, the front spring bolts came out easy, the rear hanger bolts were a little more stubborn, I broke my ratchet on it, so....

And here is everything in one after shot dismantled...

Here is the frame stripped right side up sitting on blocks to keep it out the mud...

The front frame horns are bent pretty bad, so before any more cutting can be done on the front, they need to be straightened...

And here is Bullet loaded up with leftover parts headed for the scrapyard. I hate to get rid of him, but with the bed needing replaced, the 2 front doors replaced, the whole front clip, and the engine, its better to let it go to the scrapyard than to fix it :bawling:

I couldn't get the lug nuts broke loose cause they were so swolen from rusting, they had to stay on the axles, which made it a little more difficult to load, especially since I had only me to load it...Loaded both the front and rear axles by hand over the side of the bed (not an easy task :nono:). So after I did that, I felt a small pinch in my shoulder blade when I breathe deep/yawn, so I definitely stretched my muscle, maybe even pulled it, so that is the end of my day, time to close the shop for the day and hope I feel better tomorrow...

Yeah, that might get extended by a week, this week kind of got blown apart. Today is the first day of this week that we got to work on it, and monday will be another day down as we're hitting the junkyard for a fuel cell...
