water pump

i don't know about ranger engines but i had a pontiwreck, yeah i know, a play on words, anyway when i caracked the head on that thing it overheated like a bastard with the t-stat in or out didn't matter. i've never seen it happen with a blowed head gasket ,. the overheating problem that is, just with a cracked head, so that being said , if your not overheating and you have good flow your head might be just fine

So I know that there is water in the oil and there is quite a bit of steam coming out of the tail pipe. The water pump will circulate the coolant through the radiator but not through the heating system. Could there be a crack in a certain place that it will not circulate through the heating system or could the crack be so bad that it is sucking in to much air to flow through the heating system? I know that the coolant will try to flow through the heating system because the heater core inlet hose gets a little warm but really struggles to flow. It is just weird how it flows through the rad but not through the heating system.
