Helped my son with his 97 B2300 timing belt change (115,000 miles on original). Also, put in a new water pump and thermostat while in there. I did not expect the water pump to be such a pain in the a$$. To get that pipe that goes under the alternator assembly off the pump took forever! Hit it with liberal amounts of pennatrating oil and lots of wiggeling and it finally came off!
Good things however: 1) Was able to get bolt out of bottom pulley by putting truck in 5th gear and using a breaker bar/cheater combo. 2) Got bottom pulley off with lots of gentle tapping and prying. 3) Truck ran great after buttoning it up and hitting the starter (although lifters were sure noisy at first...figured we pumped the oil out of them while turning the engine by hand).
Thanks again to all who gave input earlier!
