I bought a 1998 with 3.0/auto....it has water in the oil....what is the most common problem...blown head gasket or intake leak...best way too test?

Best way to get out the milky oil?

You need to do a compression test, its most likely a head gasket but the compression test will tell you for sure. Also if its a head gasket your over flow tank will be bubbly while its running, if you want to get the nasty oil and coolant out drain it out, thats about all you can do.

How about the water pump passages? They run through
the timing chain cover, and a leak there will allow coolant
into the oil......

Yep that could easily happen, I was lucky enough that my cover leaked externaly and the gasket was good on the inside but the op may have a different situation.

I have the same prob with water in the oil. I got J&C reman heads and all fel-pro. Good on all that. All spec torqs done right. Started fine, never ran hot, had original heads checked later, No Cracks. No bubbling in overflow. Still getting water in the oil. Not sure what else to check. Have heard about intake possibly cracked??? and now about the timing cover/water pump. How else can I check as I am into this already to $500.00. Any help is appreciated, Thanx
