Government Motors products seem to hold well in the rust department but compensate with other issues that are just as annoying if not more so. Pick your poison.

Im inland socal valley/desert...I didnt even realize rust was a thing until perusing many posts...and suddenly now I see some...luckily its only on the outside where theres paint missing....if anything is sun damage thats the enemy around here, it roasts everything!

removing the AC and getting a non AC blower box + removing the power steering will free up a lot of space. could also relocate your battery

You guys have missed the key question: do you want it to run when you’re done?

Who cares about crap like that as long as it looks cool...

Dodge Demon was banned from all NHRA competition when it was released.

Oh look, here's the letter officially banning the demon from competition:

Apparently the NHRA thought a factory sub-10 second car was just far too unfair.

Yes, I understand that the big three have their specializations. Ford builds one hell of a vehicle, full stop. They're also the only American manufacturer to win LeMans. Mopar is still king of the drag strip, and is giving everyone a run for their money in the diesel arena. GM has the market cornered on rust, rot, and fires.

But um...how many times has Ford or GM been banned from NHRA competition?

So yes, please continue to tell me how Mopar's Glory Days are behind them.

Love ya buddy, but you're dead wrong on this one. ?
They didn't ban it for being to fast, they banned it because it lacked the safety equipment required for cars that run 9's.
I had a bunch of Mopars in my youth and they had great running gear, electrics nearly as lousy as Lucas, and bodies about 1 notch better than Rambler.
By the way, Dodge is a truck, Ram is a male sheep. It's FIAT/ Chrysler. Mopar died years ago.

About the Toronado/Eldorado front drive transaxle: it was designed by an engineer named Fred Hooven when he worked for Ford. He designed it and a rack and pinion steering system for use in the 58 T Bird. Ford chose to stick with the recirculating ball system they had- comprised of 50 parts, instead of his R&P system that had 4 parts. They sold the front drive system to GM. Hooven was a customer at our dealer from the time he moved here in the mid 60's until his death. Every year Ford would send him a new Crown Vic and he'd call his buddy in the steering division and get a blue printed steering box for us to install, then we'd align it to his specs. His obituary was 1/2 page log and listed many of his inventions.
Before I went to the dealer, a local Esso station owner(not Exxon) had a VW bus with a mid mounted Toronado 455 and transaxle. He'd always pull the front wheels off the ground when driving by the Sunoco station where I worked.
