Can anyone tell me for a 1996 Ranger 2.3 Manual 4x2, what path the wiring for the VSS takes, does it go direct to the PCM/GEM/Speedo via the grey/black wires or does the signal get processed another way.
Thanks

This might aid you?

Thanks but that must be for a later model, 96 has the vss on the transmission.

Yeah, that's the schematic for my 98,

did some digging, this is manual trans '97.........

Thank you, I have seen this one before and wanted to confirm if I had the correct one, the problem I have is the grey/black wire after the first connector from the VSS exits as light blue/yellow and that splices into another light blue/yellow, one of them goes to pin 64 on the PCM. Pin 58 on the PCM grey/black goes to the large connector on the left side of the motor. Any idea if this wiring has been monkeyed with?

Not seeing the grey/black wire or the pink/orange wire in the picture, I don't think any other color wires were used on the VSS circuit.
The pink/orange wire should shows as a ground with ohm meter

Here is the 1996 Cruise wiring, it shows VSS wiring

Hi, no cruise on this truck, the grey/blk is the light wire at the bottom front of the connector in the photo it connects to the light blue/yellow opposite in the female end, I have checked the pink/orange ground and it is good.

Doesn't have to have cruise, wiring would be the same, just 2 extra wires for cruise speed tie in

I have a blue/yellow connecting to grey/red for the transmission neutral sensor on a 1996, so I think that's a grey/red wire and not the speed signal wire
Have a closer look at it

Hi RonD, it is definitely the grey/blk coming from the VSS and transitions to light blue/yellow at the connector.

Unplug connector and see if it has 1.5k OHMs to ground

VSS is new and I spun it on the bench, works fine.
Which side are you wanting me to test?

test both wires see of one is connected to VSS

???

Unplug the connector in the picture, and test the two wires to see if either of them is connected to the VSS, it would show 1.5k ohms to ground

Fishing thru some other obscure schematics I dug into & the only reference to that LB/Y wire is at the CPP (Clutch pedal position) switch.
