Vin Axle question?

Dumb Question,

Im looking at picking up a new ranger, any how i don't feel like getting
dirty. Is there any way to look up the axle ratio in the Vin? The truck was
locked when i looked at it but i do have the Vin number.

The vin is 1FTYR14V23PA27278
its not in bad shape 50000miles, 2wd , 3.0L auto, power everything, 4w abs.

get the second, itll have alot higher resale despite the mileage, and since the second is a fx4 if it really is then it should have 4.10's if im not mistaken

the first one they prolly bought for like 1000-1500 u can tell because of the manheim auto auction floor mat still inside it, if u offered them like 6k cash i bet u could walk away with the 2wd truck

Have a look at the axle code on the inside of the drivers door jam. It should reference to a code listed here. No getting dirty required.

Yup, definitely missed that.

Only other way is to look at the tag on the rear axle.

The ratio is not coded into the VIN (although maybe an ambitious dealer willing to help you might be able to look up the production options for that VIN?)
