Hey guys i need to know exactly what valve covers to use on my 302 efi the stock ones are no good and the after market ones are tall and the holes are on the wrong side. I didnt want to spend to much because you cant really see them. Ford discontinued the stock ones. My motor is from an 01 explorer.

The Explorer motors used the same covers that were used on the Cobra 5.0. What style were you looking for, if you can't see em anyway ?

I've got a set of Mustang aluminum covers that would work. They are painted Ford Blue. Nothing fancy, but PM me if you want some pics.

I'm pretty sure they are identical to the 94-95 Mustang valve covers. Here's some on Ebay:

EDIT: I'm also pretty sure you could make these work, and they look better IMHO:

Both sets are common in JY's. I priced a set of the aluminum ones in a wrecked foxbody and they wanted $20 for the pair... I passed after I realized they had no provision for a PCV valve.

My Crown Vic 5.0 came with a set like the upper steel ones I am gonna have to watch them on ebay... if they actually get $60 I might have to paint them and throw them on there. :D

I've got a couple of stock Explorer ones I'd give you. Not using them cause the rockers hit, should have dented in the baffle. Instead got a set of the Cobra ones that were said to fit EFI. Wrong! Problem is that the fill tube gets postitioned right under the air inlet tube because of the 90 deg elbow. Looking closely at the covers, looks like the location of fill tube was moved outboard some and the rubber connecting tubing extended to clear inlet. Sure you could modify some Mustang ones to fit but just a caution.

These are the ones I ended up using. http://www.jegs.com/i/Ford-Racing/397/M-6582-A351R/10002/-1?parentProductId=748703 I have the explorer intake. The oil tube is close to the heater box, but it behind the intake elbow. If your heater box is for non-a/c you should clear pretty easy. I have a/c, but I can still get to the oil fill tube. I'll take some pics this afternoon.

Pete, does your motor have room to swap sides with you valve covers? It's hard to tell, but from my pics it looks like there might be room ( I haven't looked under my hood yet to check)...

I can't put the cover with the oil fill tube on the drivers side. The intake is in the way.

The thing you have to remember is those that are listed as for EFI motors, are for Mustang EFI setups only. The Explorer and pickup EFI setups used different valve covers with different filler tube locations.

The o.p. stated he has a Explorer motor. So the ones I suggested should work for him, correct?

As shown above, the 90* elbow in the Explorer upper can interfere with the filler tube.

Valve covers depend on which fuel system, you are using as well as rockers. You can modify the baffles many times to work with larger rockers. There are ways to use an EFI valve cover on a carb and visa versa,
