I have a '96 2wd truck, manual trans, no a/c. Im replacing the vac lines that go to the EGR system, and i noticed i had a broken line coming off the plastic vacuum tank under the air intake tube. It doesnt seem to go anywhere, nor did i find any fittings/t's on the old plastic red/green lines that i removed. The other line on the tank goes under heater box into the firewall.

Can i T into my new egr vac lines? do i need to install a check valve before the tank? if so, which way does it face?

thank you for the help!

There should be a vacuum hose diagram on the cross support under the hood.

There is no vacuum hose connection from EGR system and EVAP canister that I recall.

EVAP vacuum looks like this:
Intake--------purge valve(has electrical connector)-------carbon canister--------------------fuel tank

EGR system:
Intake-----------EGR Control valve(has electrical connector)--------EGR Valve

EGR system also has a DPFE(pressure) sensor with two hoses that look like vacuum lines, these hoses run from exhaust manifold to DPFE sensor, no connection to intake or vacuum source.

EDIT:
I reread post and I think you are referring to the Climate Control system, which also has a vacuum "storage can" in the engine compartment, it would have a vacuum line that runs into the firewall.

The "can" should just have an in and out hose:
Intake---------"can"-------------(firewall)-------climate control(heater :))

On the F-150 and larger Ford trucks the "storage can" was used by the EGR system, if memory serves, I didn't think the Rangers did that.

yeah, its a plastic ball about the size of a cantalope under the intake pipe. One plastic hose goes under the heater box and through the firewall, and the other is just dangling.

would i be able to hook the disconnected line into the intake tube and pull vacuum from there?

"intake tube"?
The air plenum from air cleaner to intake, if so, no, that is a ported vacuum, you need an un-ported or regular vacuum from intake manifold, there is a vacuum manifold on the upper intake, it has several small ports used for that and other vacuum systems.

Air cleaner to throttle plate is ported vacuum
Throttle plate to intake valves is regular or un-ported vacuum

Ported vacuum is low at idle and gets higher as RPMs increase.

Regular vacuum is high at idle and gets lower as RPMs increase

So i can install a T fitting on one of my new EGR vac lines and connect it to my vac tank?

So i can install a T fitting on one of my new EGR vac lines and connect it to my vac tank?

Only if it is the vacuum line from the intake's vacuum manifold to the EGR control solenoid, the other EGR vacuum line only has vacuum when computer turns on(opens) EGR Valve, and that only happens when engine is under load.

ok cool. do i need to run a check valve before the res tank?
