ok guys i'm sure this has been answered a thousand times. but... i have to ask because i'm in a bind and this is the last thing i need to finish it. any way. i have a 302 ranger and i ordered the headmen header kit 89500 from summit. the driverside fits great! however the passenger side is super close. i'm thinking about cutting the collector off and shortening it and welding on a straight 90 from there. i know this means i'll have to lossing the header and lower the exhaust to change the starter but hopefully i don't have to change the starter that many times. ok down to my question. Has anyone else tried this with success? or should i take these back and get another kit before i start hacking away. i still have about 20 days left to return them and i'll only be out a few bucks. id like to keep this though. any advice before i cut and hack and stuck with them. :icon_welder: thanks

i know there is probably already a topic about this somewhere sorry. but if u could post a link that would help a bunch thanks.

I believe the ones you want are 89400. The same driver side but the passenger side points more rearward.

thanks that helped a lot!. i think i'm gonna just try and mod these to fit. mostly becaust i don't feel like calling summit packing them up and sending them back. if i can't make them work then i guess i'll just have to eat it. i'll post a pic if i get them to work.

I had to send back my tri-y's after I put it together they wouldn't fit on a 4wd. Just took a sharpie to where they got scuffed putting them on the engine and put in the part of the receipt that is says to put in the box in the box along with jumping through the other hoops they said to jump through and there wasn't a problem returning them.

If you wait more than whatever their grace period is, it looked like it got a lot more complicated than that.

yea. well i looked at the other headman headers and i think i actually have that set at the house a friend gave me. the other set i have fit but the collector was to close to the frame is it ok to cut the frame and would i have to reinforce it? and third wats the best tool to cut the frame?

Heres a pic of my Headmans in an 84. Its tight, but they do fit.

My exhaust just runs down after the collector and then 90's straight back. Not sure if this helps, but might give you an idea.

thanks. yea i got them in the other day just looks like the collector will get crushed as soon as i hit a bump hard especially since i live in a sub-division and my drive way has a 2inch lip but once i replace the springs with stronger springs it may help with suspension travel

I have heard that the 89500's fit in 4wd's better than 2wd's.

the frame mods were from previous actual swap headers(long and mid) available from 88 to 92 and 93-98.....

had went through various setups, liked these best in the end.

engine mounts are 92 f150 on box 1x

ok so it is ok to cut the fram like that as long as i weld it back up with a plate? i have a set that looks just like the headers and i was going to cut the frame to make clearance but i didn't know how safe it was.

i live in arkansas by the way so i don't have vehicle inspection so cutting the frame is not an issue as far as that goes just worried about stability and strength since i'll be pushing this little truck to its limits. i'm gonna just try to make the headers work as they are now and if they mess up then i'll go from there i just want it on the road for now

You're right, this WAS covered many times. A simple search would have saved you the trouble before ordering the 89500's :buttkick::sorrysign: Summit is really easy to deal with for returns and exchanges, I'd send the 89500's back and have them replaced with the 88400's. The pic Bobbywalter posted was of the Patriot headers similar to the 88400's. The 88400's tuck in closer to the motor on the passenger side.
