any one with a v8, think that its to much HP for a DD, does it ever get squirlly in the rain. or snow, and what do you think is an all around good HP number

You should'nt have any problems driving in the rain. If you put a stock 5.0 in your truck it'll only be making roughly 220hp.

My Camaro with 300hp was fine in the rain, after I added a shift kit it would get a little squirrely if you gave it a little too much gas in a corner... Now with almost 400hp and a auto locking rear it's interesting to say the least...

I normally go by this rule(i've got a fox body 5.0 stang)
Drive sensable, and safe
You shouldnt have ANY problem driving in the rain unless the skinny peddle is an issue.

i have a top speed issue lol, i was just wondering, cause i have a 3.0l and pulling into moving traffic, iv lite the tires up, on dry roads, but i didnt know, if a "302" and rain or something could get dangerous, but it doest seem to bad

Boy do you have questions that could get a lot of different answers. What's too much HP for a DD? Good weather I love to drive the Roush, 427 HP. Summer I use the Edge, planning on 350 HP in it, in Winter I use the 4x4. Tires make all the difference in how the truck handles in different weather conditions. If you are thinking at all about the swap, do it. Even a stock 180-225HP truck is a whole more fun to drive.

Also, keep in mind that no matter what engine is in it, you are the one controlling the throttle.

Problem with comparing a 'Stang to a Ranger is weight distribution. My first V-8 Ranger was downright dangerous to drive in bad weather. But a helluva lot of fun. It had around 275 HP. If you pull out in front of somebody in the rain, forget it. You're hit. You'll just blow the tires off and sit there spinning. I could be cruising down the road about 30 mph and nail the gas and be sideways almost instantly.

Too much power. Is there such a thing? Don't floor it, less power. Floor it, more fun. The 302 isn't that much power in the stock configuration. It just sounds better and more fun. Just do it!

LMAO never enough power is more like it, well it could be that my auto takes a bit to shift as long as i'm not dogging the pedal the truck has no problems in the rain. I mean it'll get sideways with no problems you just have to baby the truck around or your risking sideswiping other vehicles while driving in the rain, I had more trouble getting used to my 89 Iroc-Z camaro in the rain, that was an experience, full 180* making a left turn wow just be careful and always pay attention.

Yeah, everybody knows Chevy's 305 TBI is a neck snapper... I'm sure that 160 hp was hard to control :icon_rofl:

neck-snapper....Waaaaa-haa-ahhh-haaaa-haaaa....but seriously---if you're that worried about it---add some weight to the frame under the bed---about 50 lbs. per side oughta help a lot---most trucks are light on the rear axle in the first place (and take about 50 lbs off the gas pedal:icon_rofl:)

Edit: on a roll now......put a momentary switch at the top of the gas pedal so it'll cut the signal to
2 of the injectors when you don't need any wheel-spin...once you get some speed up--move
the tip of your boot off the switch for full
power:icon_surprised:

Think what all has been said is that, no problems if you know what your limits are and those of the truck. The kids around here grow up driving on the frozzen lakes and learn how to do a great 270 deg spin, all under control.
