Using the #1 (stiffest) torsion bar on 2wd Edge

I took some quick a quick look under the truck yesterday and I think that the torsion bars need to be replaced. Figured since I was replacing the shocks I'd just do the torsion bars too. I've done some research and it appears that the 2WD edges did not come with the stiffest torsion bar (#1) as what came in the sport trac and FX4 model.

Since I have a 2WD, the front end is lighter than the with the 4x4 models. Would using the (#1) bar make it too stiff in the front?

good question:popcorn:

Too stiff would be subjective...

Being they are a larger diameter bar they would create a stiffer ride then you are use to.

Not sure why you'd want to. My Edge with factory bars is stiff enough, and handles quite well given how high it is. It has some kind of blue plastic sway bar bushings which seem to work well - maybe go with stock spring rates and look at sway control?

What led you to the conclusion that the torsion bars need replaced?

Seriously, I imagine they're fine. If anything, they may just need cranked a little higher and then the truck will need to be aligned at a shop. Be aware, if you crank the bars too much, it will yield a harsher ride.

The diameter of my research is correct, is that the diameter increases by .03 inches.

So yes, it should be a stiffer ride. But would it be brain jarring?

I think the blue sway bar bushing are made by Moog. I have a set on it’s way already. :D

I had bought the truck a little while ago. The truck was taken care of pretty well except the suspension. It’s at 150K now and the suspension components have never been replaced.

I took measurements from the ground to the control arm and stuff and compared the values to a guide I found here. Based on that and the keys being maybe a couple turns from being fully cranked is why I think they need to be replaced.
