Well, I put one of those larger throttle bodies from an 87 into my 89 2.9l ranger a few years back, but I am wondering which Throttle Position Sensor I should have used? The local parts store has 2 different part numbers for the TPS on 87 & 89......Does anyone know if this makes any difference what so ever?

any info is appreciated.....

I think I used my 88 TPS on the 87 TB I am running now.

I did notice that my '88 has 2 part numbers for the TPS, the difference appears to the the wiring configuation on the sensor. If you look down in there, there's A,B,C in the plastic, the different parts variated in the sequence of the letters. I guess if it works, use the same TPS as you have now...

The sequence of the pins MAYBE different & may not watch for it....what I noticed is the locateing tap on the plugs ~both male and female~ so you can't plug it in wrong. are in different locations ....this was the way on my 86' donor from 87'. Pins were in the same order/location, so I shaved molded tab down on the plug to get it to fit.

your question was from new years 87' to 89' may run into the a simular situation, maybe not...just a heads up.

hope that helps

I'm running the same sensor (1988) with my 58mm TB.

Wouldnt the TPS from the smaller TB not give you 100% open throttle. Because with the smaller TB 100% open would be equal to like 85% with the bigger one? Or am i talking out my ass?

later,
Dustin

my 91 tps worked fine, opened all the way and the voltage increase was fine.
