Hi, its a 96 2wd 2.3 manual reg cab. How does the under hood light work. Does it need for the key to be in or what. What combination of things does it need to be on. Mine had no bulb so I put one in and its a no go. Also on the pass side there is this very large plunger switch that is depressed when the hood is closed. Its a factory installed part. Is this what controls the light?

I know on the older ones there was a mercury switch on the hood light.

At some point it did go to a plunger switch that was open when depressed, closed when released (hood open), but I don't know the year that happened. The diagram looks like it is still a mercury switch in 96.

The bulb is always hot and always grounded. That switch (shows as one piece to the bulb socket in the diagram) is the only thing that seems to make a difference in the circuit.
