My buddy called me and heres whats going on...

He was back in the woods on his property cutting wood with a hay wagon with sides on it, and a Ford 9N tractor (I think its actually a massey, but same thing) hooked to it.

He had it parked on a decent incline and the tractor slipped out of 1st gear and rolled backwards into a creek, the drive path is barely wide enough to get the 9N down, he climbed on the tractor and tried to drive it out, but the hay wagon (half full of wood) and the tractor both are sunk in the soft bottom of the creek up to the axles.

Now granted, the banks of the creek arnt that steep, but theres no way of getting back in there with anything thats big enough to pull it up out of there. I know my Mud truck woudl probely do it but trying to wedge a 76 F250 through a 6ft or so wide path aint gonna happen.

I took my little IH Cub back there and tried to pull it out, but it just started spinning the tires and lifting the front end.

Theres no way the F150's getting back there, i could probely get rusty back there but a 2wd isnt going to be able to do much of anything....

Any ideas?

I dont know anyone with a winch BTW....

I would need ATLEAST 250 yrds of chains to get it to an open spot

Dont think i can come up with that much.

Could you unhook the trailer from from the tractor? You could use your ranger in conjunction with the ih and start tugging...maybe?

drop the trailer and see if you can get enough room to move the tractor.

Yeah, we could unhook the trailer, but the problem is the tounge is buried in the mud.

Luckly the water isnt to deep, its only like 2 ft, i called a another buddy going to bring his Skid steer out with a set of tracks on it....i dont know what else besides that, i dont think any small 4x4 pickup will get it up ot of there.

Just start hitching rangers and small tractors up in series. You'll have him outta there in no time! :icon_rofl: :icon_rofl: :icon_rofl:

Do you know anyone with a 4WD tractor? It's not cheap, but if it comes down to it you may have to rent a tractor with 4WD.

I dont know anyone with a 4wd tractor. Do you think another 9N ford could drag it out? My Dads got a 9N that would for sure do better then my little Cub did (although it did pull its guts out).

What if i took a strap and wrapped it around a tree to use like a pulley, and then hook it onto my cub...think i could do it then?

unhook the trailer and set it on some sort of block system to keep it out of the mud (maybe use some of the wood in the back). Pull the tractor out, then (if it has a bucket, or your buddies skidsteer), get a chain on the bucket attached to the trailer, lift it as high as you can to get the tongue up, and pull it out.
