Hello,
About to replace my front wheel u-joints on my 94 Explorer...has a D35...i called on the U-joints and was told there are two different sizes...one is 1.188 and the other is 1.063...is there any way of telling what one i need or do i have to wait til i have the other ones out??...Any help would be greatly appreciated...and as far as the passenger side shaft can that be removed at the stub shaft joint or do i need to take apart the pig and remove the C-clip, I am trying to do this the easiest way possible as it is 15-20 degrees up here in Northern Michigan :)
Thanks
Nick

Parts counter people are slaves to the computers.

You'll need the bigger of the 2. Basically they are asking if you have a D35 or D28. The D35 uses the larger u-joints. Explorers never came with the D28.

It'd also be wise to get the "superstrength" non-greasable joints.

Another tip is to rent a ball-joint press. That and a bench vise will be very helpful with the removal of the joints.

Good Luck.

when i did my u-joints, i had to take them out to get the right size. to get the pass stub shaft out, you unfortunately have to remove the pumpkin and remove the c-clip but now would be the time to make the c-clip eliminator spring for the pass side so you dont have to pull the pig to replace the shaft. hope this helps ya.

Tell them you want spicer 297X u joints (or if your wheeling this truck you want the spicer 760X u joints)

Don't waste time with the 297's. Get the 760x joints. They are MUCH stronger. All of your joints will be the same size. If you have a c-frame press and are lucky, you can change the inner passenger u-joint without having to pull the diff. If you do have to pull it, make a c-clip eleminator while you are at it.
