My credo
They say it can't be done, so I did it. Again
I have a 1995 Lincoln Mark 8 and I am trying to install a pair of single DIN units into the dashboard's double DIN slot. I have a CD receiver and a vintage equalizer/spectrum analyzer, both standard sized single DIN units but they will not fit. The hole appears to be about two or three mm too small (top to bottom). I don't want to use a file or anything else that will leave metal shavings behind and also would like to have it look somewhat properly done.
Anyone have any ideas? I am considering using my Port-a-Power with a spreader attachment but I do not currently own such an attachment.

Trying to stretch the opening will most likely crack the plastic. Plus, only the middle will spread. Only proper way is to cut or grind the opening to the proper shape. Holding a vacuum cleaner hose right under the opening should catch and remove most if the filings.

are you sure everything will fit for the full depth you need?

If it's just a few mm you might be able to get a good file and open it a little on both sides

///////upon closer inspection, it turns out i may not be the most observant person around. The structure behind the wood finish is some kind or polymer or fibreglas, so, no real worries for the debris causing electrical shorts.
