Turboing DSP head

Hi guys, I have an 87 Merkur xr4ti. Same 2.3 lima as you guys pretty much, except for turbo, distributor, forged pistons, and 8valve, single plug head as far as i know. I want to convert to a EDIS or otherwise distributorless ignition and perhaps a Dual plug head. I was just wondering if any one here has any experience turboing a 89-01 (before the duratecs) dsp 2.3. is it strong enough to put a turbo in? is it as simple as switching my forged pistons and intercooler over to account for teh compression difference? I know there are a lot of turborangers, but it seems that most of them swap engines from a turbocoupe or xr4ti. Thanks in advance!

youre probably gonna have detonation issues with the dsp head because of the smaller combustion chamber and higher compression ratio. you might get away with removing some material from the combustion chamber to try to mimic the size and shape of the turbo head but ive also heard of people getting into the water jacket that way. not sure what your reasoning is to get away from the distributor but if you have the time and money you could swap your internals into a newer block, i would definitely use a turbo head though. pics of the xr??
