Thinking about turboing a 94

Alright guys I'm looking at a 1994 Ford ranger that has a 2.3 with 285,xxx miles in it with a blown head gasket and I want to turbo it. Is it better to get a motor out of like a turbo coupe or build this motor for a turbo? I'm getting the truck for free so the price is right. I've been looking for a turbo coupe motor but they seem pretty hard to find in my area. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

I'm not a 4 cylinder expert, but I'm pretty sure the Turbocoupe engines had forged internals. If you want to run lots of boost, that would probably be the way to go. I'm not sure exactly what the limits of the stock bottom end are, so the internals might tolerate small amounts of boost, but who does small amounts of boost?

turbo coupes do have forged internals and can handle 350-400 hp. stock ranger bottom ends can take maybe 5-6 psi? if your goal is less than 400 hp, find a wrecked turbo coupe (dont part out a good one, they are getting rare) but if you wanna go big, build your own engine. lots of money but lots of potential

im looking at doing the same to my ranger. what i want to do is use the same block but just rebuild it with 2.3t parts. im new to the boosted ranger scene so im trying to sort out the loose ends on it but to my knowledge the motors are the same except for the 2.3t having forged pistons and a slightly larger cam
