No sir, I have an 88 ranger block, with a 2000 2.5 crank rods and pistons in it. It is a straight drop in. I used 2.5 main bearings, and a set of 2.3 rod bearings from an old large main journal rebuild kit I still had laying around. And you can stroke a 2.3 crank to a 2.5, because you only have to change the ofset by 3.5 mm to get a 7mm stroke increase.
