Turbo or supercharged minivan.

the website turbominivan.com has some crazy vans that you can build for super cheap. With just a little bit of work you can get one of those 89 caravans to beat or at least keep up with a stock mustang gt. they also made them with manual transmissions if you would rather have that.

When I had a VW bus I had a 289 and a Cruise-O-Matic laying around and was contemplating putting that in the middle of the van in a box. The VW bus has a real frame. You would need some way to put the VW chrome moons back on whatever wheels you could find for the rear axle. That would definately be a sleeper. Especially with a quiet exhaust on it.

You can do some pretty crazy things with those VW engines...

But you can't turn them into 289s.

My first car was a '69 Fastback. I remember flipping through JCWhitney looking at all the big bore kits and such. I could barely afford insurance. I did replace the EFI with an aftermarket manifold and a Holley Bug Spray carb. And a dual point distributor. And it was still slow. I managed 85mph with it--almost buried the 90mph Wolfsburg speedo.

My uncle raced Formula Vees. And he helped friends build them. Cooling is the problem of course. But they don't weigh anything and a horsepower goes a long way in a 1,500# car.
