My credo
Mild performance, smooth comfy ride
I just turbo charged my 3.0. Turbo, catch can, pump, oil filters all in the bed. 4AN oil feed, 5/8(10AN) drain.
I let the truck idle for good 10-15minutes while I checked everything over before taking it for a drive around the block.
Maybe a 5-10 minute drive everything running good on my truck no check lights or anything. I was trying to actually make boost and didn’t see anything on my vac/boost gauge but I did look back to see blue smoke and checked to see oil dripping from the exhaust housing.
I’m using a tilton pump rated for 50psi.
Waiting for the turbo to cool before I check into it posting to see if anyone has ideas I should look into when I do.

No restrictor pill?

Magnificent setup by the way... so cool lol.

Questioning the effectiveness of the intercooler though.. you gonna put some fans on it?

No restrictor. I did unmount the catch and moved it little lower and took it around. Still burnt a bit when I got home but not near like it was/ or as fast as it did.

Thanks I think ima do a video on it and show everything once it’s running smoothly.

I think with it already being in the back it probably doesn’t do much. More there for looks I would assume. The fan under is mounted to oil coolers and pushed air up so might add to inter

Hmm... China turbo? It could just be a matter of crummy seals. Have you looked to see if there's oil in the compressor?

Yeah it’s a eBay special. Wanted proof of concept for getting an expensive one. When I went to look there was some in the compressor side. that’s why i thought maybe my drain was too horizontal and not vertical enough so lowered it down. That seemed to help but not 100% did another 10-15minute drive and very minimal just as I got home if I rev’d it hard at park smoked.
I’m thinking if I drive normally I should be okay cause I was stomping on it on every corner to get the revs up for the turbo to lite. Normally I just do the 2000-3500 range as it’s just an auto trans. and turbo didn’t really start whining til 5500rpm but the auto shifts at that point and I lose it

Damn.. that turbo doesn't look big enough to have that much lag.. is the wastegate functioning properly?

Now that I've zoomed in for a better look.. I really don't have confidence in that drain. The steeper the better. Arrange everything however you need to.. to get the drain hose as vertical as possible and see what that does.

Yeah I got a lil bit of a smaller turbo for the engine side since I put it in the bed. I tested the waste gate with a compressor it starts to crack at 5psi. Only thing is maybe my vac/boost gauge isn’t in the proper location and I’m only seeing vac not proper manifold pressure for some reason. I have it T’d off the vac line off the throttle body. Which I had like that for a year before putting turbo in. Idle is like -18/19 and WoT is -1-2. I have a bit of cable slack from the throttle body swap from an escape. I also don’t feel the truck ‘pull’ like it hits boost.

Yeah it was lower but not low enough. I wanted it all contained in the bed but im going to have to make a new bracket and hoses, a job for next week. Saturday is adulting chores my work week starts Sunday. I have it zip tied to the IC brackets I made sitting on the bed itself which is what helped so I’ll have to re configure the set up.

Here’s pictures of it currently. Didn’t want to deal with draining the oil and getting into it. So unmounted and moved it to confirm it helping and if that’s was the solution which it seems to be.
