trying to solve solve soft brake pedal since weekend

Yes you need the female coupler.

Take it with you... cause those fittings aren't necessarily the same... there are a couple different sizes.

Have you thought about a good gravity bleed on that system?

I'm sorry...

Hope you get your way figured out before winter.

actually......hose end is 3/8 inch
How are you measurung it? It sure looks like 1/4" NPT in the picture. 1/4" NPT male threads will be roughly 1/2" diameter at the end and taper slightly bigger toward the other end. Pipe and pipe fittings are described by their "nominal" inside diameter, which is often somewhat bigger than you expect.

Everything in my hand is 1/4" NPT size

if you look at pic:

outside diameter of air hose end threads.......3/8 inch.....(opening of corresponding coupler would be 1/2 inch.....but narrows to 3/8 inch thread diameter inside)
outside diameter of mityvac quick connect end........1/4 inch

Like Gump said, the only way to ensure fit is to bring pieces with me.
But I have very limited transportation and what I need might not be in stock.
This is really making me upset.

No need to be upset. The parts you need are the most common used by DIYers. Take your mityvac so you match the proper style of quick connect and get it with 1/4" NPT female threads. If your store doesn't have that fitting in stock, they are in very bad shape.

Of course, call and see how late they'll be open due to the holiday.

Edit; these should be available at hardware stores (Ace, Service star, tractor supply, Rural King, etc.), home improvement stores (Lowes, Home Depot, Menards), tool stores (Northern, Harbor Freight), and automotive stores (Advance, Auto Zone, OReilly, Pep Boys, Etc.)

I've noticed a lot of air hoses that take 1/4" fittings are labeled as 3/8". I'm not enough of an air guy to understand the history or the marketing, I guess the 3/8 is hose O.D.? Anyway, as Curious Hound said, basically everything for home/light duty use is 1/4", and I believe type M is the most commonly used quick connect.

It's the nominal hose ID. The ID of the fittings is usually a bit larger than 1/4". Using hose with 3/8" ID helps reduce friction loss that slows airflow.

I looked at all the parts sellers online. Looks like best bet is the Tru-Flate brand at Ace Hardware.
I get to blow more money on Uber.

My only concern. The air compressor hose fitting thread is 3/8 outer diameter.

So do I get 3/8 or 1/4 quick coupler ? The couplers are packaged at Ace and I don't think they let me open one to check

The outside of the threads, hose, pipe, whatever MUST be bigger to account for wall thickness. Pipe, pipe fittings and hose are denoted by their ID. So the OD has to be bigger.

Tubing is denoted by OD. So, when you subtract wall thickness, tubing ID is smaller than the stated size.

So, 1" pipe is 1" ID (actually a little bit bigger. 1" Tubing is 1" OD (usually a very accurate measurement.)

These are international standards. This is how it's done.

This may be stating the obvious and also too late, but in a pinch you can often just remove the quick coupler from the tool and screw the hose straight in. I think most if not all tools I've bought with quick connects, the quick connects were removable.

That's true. On my MityVac unit, I would lose the use of this really cool double swivel fitting. That would make me sad.

I've been following this thread since day 1 and it just occured to me now that I have one of those (vacuum bleeders) in the garage I bought on clearance before I had air. 😂. Definitely going senile.

Not relevant, other than to place a value on the advice I give.
