Yes you need the female coupler.

Take it with you... cause those fittings aren't necessarily the same... there are a couple different sizes.

Have you thought about a good gravity bleed on that system?

How are you measurung it? It sure looks like 1/4" NPT in the picture. 1/4" NPT male threads will be roughly 1/2" diameter at the end and taper slightly bigger toward the other end. Pipe and pipe fittings are described by their "nominal" inside diameter, which is often somewhat bigger than you expect.

if you look at pic:

outside diameter of air hose end threads.......3/8 inch.....(opening of corresponding coupler would be 1/2 inch.....but narrows to 3/8 inch thread diameter inside)
outside diameter of mityvac quick connect end........1/4 inch
