I have a 2000 ranger, 3.0 vin "V", 5 speed manual, electronic shift on the fly 4x4. The motor is toast so I am doing a 4.0 swap out of a donor 2000 ranger. Picked the engine up brought it home and to my surprise it has different bellhousing bolt pattern. I check a few places in this forum and it says the tranny was the same in all manual tranny's in that year. I have now found a few other places on the web that say it is different.

I need some help quick cause i need to run down and buy the tranny before its gone. Also do I just need the tranny and not the transfer case?

Thanks in advance.

The transmissions are the same but the bellhousing patterns are different

So I should just need the gear box?, my transfer case should bolt up?

You need a transmission out of a 4.0L truck. The transfercase will bolt up just fine.

*edit*

Also transmissions out of a 2.9L ranger will work as well, just make sure it's a M5OD, otherwise you'll be putting in a weaker transmission.
