I let my dad take my truck out for a drive to see what kind of gas mileage i was getting with it. Every day i use almost half a tank of gas driving to school and back ( 32m there, 32m back ) I set my cruise on 70 and use it all the way down the highway for 25 miles, i watch my gas needle drop. So my dad makes the same drive this afternoon, and took the same route, he gets home and tells me he did it in 2.6 gallons and got 24 mpg. I drive a 2001 ford ranger with the 4L v6 engine and its 4 wheel drive.

truth or bs?

One of you guys is calculating gas mileage wrong here. Or you are not taking into account what he did that time your dad took it out vs. what route you exactly drive.

I call it BS unless he drove 40 the whole time.

If you're using a half tank of gas to drive 64 miles then something is waaaaaayyyyyy wrong with your driving.

Just sayin'

Yeah, that is way too much fuel for 64 miles.

I accelerate slowly, use cruise control on the highway and follow speed limits in city, what else am i supposed to do lol if i accelerate any slower ill get run over :p

Well I've got a '91 Explorer (5,200 lbs. +) with the 4.0L & A4LD. It's got 5.13 gears (welded f&r) and 36" Super Swampers. I get 17 mpg and can drive to work and back (30 miles round trip) plus run to the store on occasion all week long for just over a half tank of gas. If I fill it up, I can get a good wheeling trip in too.

With my 4.0l 4x4's in good weather on the interstate (72 mph) going to work, 80 miles round trip, I would get 20-22 mpg. Get about the same in my 550 hp Mustang driving the same - somethings wrong with the way you drive.

Best I ever got with my 4x4 4.0 extra cab was 19.5, before oxygenated fuels. (Did I spell that right?) Worst I ever got was 12 mpg....which brings up a general question I will cycle back to the beginning of the discussion forum...

ya i drive a round trip to school about 170 ish miles, and i use a half tank........ either that or your gas gauge is reading incorrectly. And sometimes if i drive nice i can get a little less than a half tank on a 170 mile round trip.

I get 17-18mpg at hwy speeds, your mileage is low, his is high..... Somewhere along the line, something is happening where your losing fuel.

I get about 25 highway with my truck if I keep it around 55 (no cruise control, sucks gas in a manual when there are hills).

Try going slower, your paying approximately 20 cents per gallon more for ever 5 mph you go over 55...
