Truth or BS

I get around 220 miles around town on one tank with the same engine. I even accelerate pretty fast. Something HAS to be wrong.

I do 76 miles roudtrip to school, and i go through less than a 1/4 tank of gas..so you're doing something wrong, or your truck is doing something bad.

I get 21ish with my 4.0 5spd

something is def wrong..

I get about 25 highway with my truck if I keep it around 55 (no cruise control, sucks gas in a manual when there are hills).

Try going slower, your paying approximately 20 cents per gallon more for ever 5 mph you go over 55...

Darn, I get over 130 miles before I get to half a tank just from driving around town mostly. I take my truck on the interstate twice a week and drive it around town all week. I am running 33x12.5's on mine.

You must have a Gas Ghost!!!!

my truck deosnt do to well on gas either. big engine, big tires, and a heavy foot at times lol. i think my odometer is due to the bigger tires. i have synced with my gps and its off by so many miles so i dont know a true mpg. i have put new plugs and wires in about a month ago so thats no the issue. air filter is clean to. with that said i get around 200 miles to a full tank. mind u that i wont run it to empty as thats bad to do.

Gas gauges in general are not precise. Just because you went 150 miles and the gauge is about halfway down, doesn't mean you're gonna get exactly 300 miles per tank. You need to calculate actual miles per gallon, not miles per tank.

check that someone isnt stealing your gas while your at school.

only logical reason here, except for the truck is broken somehow. 64 miles on a tank is low. big thirsty 500ci caddy's get better mpgs. maybey ya crashed your gas tank, or a leaky fuel system.

A what? I get like 150miles in half a tank (thats about 8 gallons) in the city with some highway driving...

150 is really good. I let the gauge tell me that it is just above a 1/4 tank left and then I fill it up. Since my tank is a 16.9 gallon(supposed to be according to my owners manual) and I add 14.8 gallons I know that gauge is working. I do watch the accuracy of it and have since new. I am running a 4:10 gear at the rear and with the 33x12.5's I think that getting a liitle over 340 miles to almost a full tank around town and interstate driving (70 mph) is not bad either!! I fill up every three weeks.

That gas ghost sneaks by us and sips at our gas and he watches over our gas milage....lol

i put 20 dollars worth in everytime i reach a quarter... thats 20 bucks twice or 3 times a week. i get around 260 miles to a tank

I suppose it's not impossible. Once I did get just a hair over 23mpg. It was mostly downhill going about 80mph though, for more than half the tank without stopping.

Long trips (for me) yield about 20mpg if it's not very windy.

Don't base your fuel consumption off of what your gas gauge says. It's not accurate. Reset your trip odometer next time you fill up, then the next time you fill up after that take the miles on your trip odometer and divide it by the amount of gasoline it took to fill it back up. That's your gas mileage, it's not completely accurate but it's very close.

To get 24mpg with the SOHC engine I would image you would need to:
1. Drive at or below 60mph
2. Have no head or cross wind (a tail wind would help though)
3. Be driving on a smooth level surface (or downhill)
4. Do not use heat, a/c, cruise control, all windows up

Cruise control uses a little bit of extra gas, that is assuming otherwise you would still be driving at the same speed. I learned this while watching Top Gear, they managed to go 800 miles with 19 gallons of Diesel in a Audi A8 V8 TDI. They had to save fuel wherever they could. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIHdpmTIrFw

Thats like 13 mpg... :icon_confused:

It's like 14.5 mpg., I have a 15 gal. tank (pretty sure). To get out of my town in any direction you have to go up a hill so that kinda ruins it also. When I drove to/from OBX I got about 18 mpg though. I don't think you can get much better with a 4.0 w/ auto trans.
