Recently I read a forum debating removing catalatic converters and the fact that this is illegal. Out of curiosity and lack of experience in exhaust tech, how exactly do your run true duals off say, a 2.9 v6 without it being illegal? Do you have to fit it with dual Cats? I don't want an x pipe, so...

Well normally, i believe you would use an x pipe. If you dont want to, then yes, youd have to run with 2 cats

he doesnt want a crossover altho it is recommended to help idle pulsation and increase torque. if you want to run tru split duals you will have to run individual cats and pipes from the manifolds/headers.

I see what your saying. What exactly would happen if i just left the cat as is, on the right and just ran 1 pipe through it? would this not work? Assuming this is perposterous, could you explain what you mean Z3CHYD? does this involve altering the cat to include a second pipe? how do you hook up 2 cats? split the wires? (for the connection?) Do I have to buy new cats or just modify/add another from a similair setup ranger? i can get one cheap. do i need another O2 senser?

he means get a dual in dual out cat, you can buy these elsewhere, by running another pipe into the existing cat and out the other end is similar, but not running the pipe thru it as this would be the same as cutting the cat. i dont see how you could run another pipe into or out of your existing cat, personally id get two seperate cats and put in a crossover or and xpipe and use that further down in the system. your trk should have one sensor per side on your y pipe, if i was running duals id cut the ypipe and leave the sensors where they are, just add the new pipe to the existing pipe that was the y pipe after the sensors going back. kind of hard to explain i could do better w/ a picture if i could make one for you...

If you wanted duals hooked to your original cat, you would just bolt on one of these:

if you wanted to run the dual in dual out cat i posted before, you would have to remove the "collector" that makes the manifolds pipes merge into one, here are a couple pics of what you would have to remove (i just took these pics...its midnight and i go out to take pics for u lol)
As you can see from the pics, you wont need another o2 sensor, its on a smaller pipe connected to the two pipes coming from your manifolds.(you have enough pipe from there to connect a cat or pipes) the thing you have to remove kinda looks like a cat, but just splits your 2 pipes into 1, ill be removing mine when it get warmer out, and put true duals on, and ill take pics to show what/how i did it on here too

the first pic is were youll have to unbolt, so you can have duals

alright, i dont know where to get the dual in dual out. if i take it to a muffler shop, can i ask them to make it dual in dual out cat in the exhaust? they would probably just make an x pipe or something...

you have to buy it and they put it in, id look around at magnaflow or summit racing/jegs and see what they have in a universal.

I think just to be easy to please I might have it Y-piped after the cat. Also, does anyone know off by hand what O2 sensors are worth? I might replace mine, as its stuttering. I'll show y'all. Im starting a new thread titled "Idle dilema" if you know anything, head over there and help me out!!! Thx :icon_twisted:

OR: use true duals with two baby cats--they get hot enough to burn up the really bad fumes:icon_rofl:

You live in Canada man!!! No need to run any cats at all if you don't want to! I've been running a straight pipe ( no cats no mufflers) for over 2 years now and have never had any legal issues as a result.
