Lately on one of the rangers down at where I work, on occasion when you try to start it up all it will do is crank and not turn over. Mind you, it only does it off and on. Other times it starts up normally.

One of the guys I work with discovered if you switch around the relays at the P.D box it will start right up. Bad fuel pump relay perhaps? Or something else. It only does this every so often, not all the time.

Truck is a '94 extended cab 4.0.

I would replace the fuel pump relay with new, they are not expensive, and at there age should be replaced anyway.

I have a 94 and the fuel pump relay and the EEC relay have needed replaced.

Also a good idea to keep 1 for a spare. Although like you did the A/C relay switch will always work in a pinch

I would replace the relay because it's bad. Disabling the AC is silly. It IS used in winter.

Replacing due to age is kinda silly, though. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I don't feel replaceing relays due to age is ( silly )!

Relays act out at the most inopertune time when they get to be old! It would be 1 thing if they would just quit and not work again but due to age they may not work once and then be fine for a week and then act out again when you need your vehicle or worse! when your wife or girlfriend has it!

All it took for me is to have to switch it twice and I replaced them all! and no more problems.

You could spend alot of time and energy thumping a relay to get it to work or spend a few dollers and replace it!
