Ok so I have a 99 3.0 Ford ranger and today I was at work and in the morning I drove my truck to work just fine no problems then drove it to lunch same thing no problems then when I was at work I noticed I left my headlights on so I tried to start it to make sure it wasn’t dead and I heard the starter crank for like 1 second then it faded out. Then I tried again and I got nothing from it and it won’t crank anymore. I checked all the fuses inside the cab and their all fine I have brand new terminals that are on right I checked those. I do have a cut off switch for my batterie that at the time I put it on really tight wrapped everything so none of the connections would get wet but I was wondering if this sounds like classic starter going out or if I should cut open my battery kill switch? Oh and I also tried it with a new battery but I didn’t get anything. All the electronics come on when I turn the key also.

There was a member here not long ago that had their (cheap) battery disconnect fail. It is always a possibility. I would say you need to start at the battery with your testing. Even the "new" battery might be junk... wouldn't be the first time I've seen it happen.

Ok I’m gonna try going threw all the wiring I just wanted to ask cause the part where the strtedbfaded out I flcouldnt find that on here and I have to get a ride there so I was wondering if I should grab a starter cause once I get there I’m stuck there most the day oh and that’s the exact kind I got on it

I would say it's suspect... probably low quality china junk.

You tried jump starting?

Does it click?

I got it from our parts store and ok so I left the dome light on while I was at work and when I came out it was really dim so I tried starting it to see if i killed the batterie but the starter cranked for like a second then it did another second of really slow cranks then after that I could turn the ignition and I get nothing I hooked a battery up to it that eas new and it was powering a huge dump trailer from work so it should have been good enough and that didn’t work then I tried Juno starting it and that didn’t work but it did bring my battery to being more charged. Oh and when I turn the key I don’t lose any lights or have any of them go dim so it’s not like the battery is to low. Idk I’m going to it right now just without a truck it’s hard to go back and forth so I was trying to get any possible idea of what I should bring

I would head their with a battery charger... voltmeter... test lamp and a tool bag with a hammer.

I put a new starter in it went threw all the wiring from the battery to the starter and it’s all fine but it won’t crank. I just noticed that usually when I turn the truck on or turn it to accessories the truck beeps at the start but it’s not even beeping when I turn the key. You think it might be the computer?

This is what the problem was lmao so the daggum kill switch must have arked out somehow and it popped this fuse for the ignition. When I looked at diagrams of fuse it said this one was abs so I never checked it but it turned out being the ignition fuse

Glad you found the problem. Next time you have a problem like this, check your voltage at the solenoid first to rule out your kill switch. Also, ford trucks are notorious for cold weather starting problems. My 97 won't start with the key when it gets below 40. I think it's in the ignition switch, but ive never verified it. I can jump it with a screwdriver on the solenoid, so i am just going to put in a push button starter switch for when it acts up.

Those are really... really cheap disconnects. I told you it was suspect.

Lesson learned...

Lol true true. Thanks man and the 3.0 guy I would look it up on how to do the push button because If it has the pats system I think it’s a pain

Nah. Just run a wire from each of the big terminals on the solenoid to the button. Its just like jumping it with a screwdriver, but you just use a button.

Yeah but if you have a pats system it won’t let you

The pats system controls the pcm so you would still have to figure that out I tried putting a push button in mine the same exact way after someone tried stealing my truck and punched the ignition out but it wouldn’t let me
