Did the Thunderbolts get special mirrors? I don't recall that one.



I was interested in that one too. Probably because the mirrors changed in 2006. I seem to recall 410Fortune using that kit on Eddie's 07 Ranger (Explorer Forums build) and the kit either replaces the mirror glass or is shaped to attach to the back of it.

This kit is the 2006+ GLASS with signal LEDs and heater grid installed. The shape of the glass is what makes them 2006+.

The Thunderbolt mirrors are the 2001-2005 style mirror that has special mirror glass with the Thunderbolt insignia along with the signal LEDs. I bought the mirror kit which was the glass only and modified my 2003 Ranger power mirrors. Since I have moved on to 2009 mirrors, the Thunderbolts are a complete power mirror with the Thunderbolt glass installed and wiring is included. I might want to mention that these are NO LONGER AVAILABLE as the last of the Thunderbolt glass has been sold by Hillbank Motorsports. Only way to get it now is pre-owned like these.

Eddie's truck is a 2007 model and these mirrors are not shaped like that year. They are a completely different style. BTW, 410 almost has that truck finished. Eddie PM'd me a sneak preview and that 2007 Ranger is INCREDIBLE!

Cool, did not know or remember the differences. I've got the 06+ mirrors on my 98, I'm not going back. Heated mirrors would be cool, but I wouldn;t have a whole lot of days where it gets used down here.

When talking about Eddie's truck I was talking about the Muth kit which is listed for 06-11 Rangers IIRC. I know that the Thunderbolt mirrors aren't like the 2006+ mirrors. Thuderbolts are shaped like the 98-05 mirrors, but I didn't know about the insignia and LEDs.

Actually, Eddie took it home last week. There's still some finishing touches they're going to work on, but 410 is finished with the main part of the build.

To be clear: OEM 2006+ mirrors... unless you are willing to modify backing plates of non-OEM mirrors such as the set of TYC mirrors I have for sale. For those non-OEM mirrors, you would have to remove the existing glass from the backing plate and install the Muth heated signal glass into the backing plate. Also, you will have to set up a timer module and switch to control the heat function (I can help you with those details).

These would be a bolt-on fit for your 2003. Only thing you would have to do is tap into your signal circuits,
Turn signal body-side wiring colors:
LH Side: LG/WH
RH Side: WH/LB
Solder and shrink tube the Thunderbolts into these wires and you are golden!

He didn't mention to me that he was going with a Muth kit. Good choice though. I haven't talked to Eddie in about 3 weeks, so I'm glad to know he has finally taken delivery of his truck. 410 has had it for several years, so I'll bet Eddie is really stoked to finally have it back! And frankly, so am I! Eddie is a great guy and I so very much wanted him to get this truck finished while he was "young" enough to actually enjoy it! LOL

That’s a lot more my speed, for basically the same thing in the older style. I like my style of mirrors anyway, I don’t feel the need to upgrade to the 2006+ mirrors.

For the wiring, are there (somehow) already turn signal wires in the door, or will I have to route back to under the dashboard to a harness?
