TRS Event TRS 2023 Fall Adventure - Land Between The Lakes

That's part of the reason for the arrangement of a group discount at the KOA. That way we can eat and sleep in the same general area. Some are camping in the open field for primitive camping. At least one is camping in a modern camp spot so he has electric. And I think, but I'm not sure, someone is bringing their camper to camp in the RV section. One other is talking about making arrangements to stay at a hotel or motel but I have no details on that.

We generally gather at one of the camp spots and hang around the fire ring with beverages of choice in the evening or through out the day for those choosing to stay back for whatever reason. There is also talk of camp fire baked pizza one night. That is an extra special treat provided by Uncle Gump and Ericbphoto last time. I believe they are making arrangements to do a repeat performance this year.
I already told Mr. @Uncle Gump - no pizza and I'm a now show (LOL - JK).

I’ll have to see what the route is from where I live to the meet. If it’s close enough to detour, I might check it out.

I had to look it up.

I knew it was in a song, Wagon Wheel by Darius Rucker.
That's awesome man, I never really paid that song much attention beyond the chorus, quite a story there. Bob Dylan penned parts of it.
Anything east from Nashville, or more like Knoxville, is gonna pretty much take you into the Appalachians. Pretty country through there tho

Cumberland Falls is probably about an hour and a half to the east of where we'll be. I stopped there on my way to Attica last year.

My family actually came from Tennessee in the late 1800's.
One of my fathers uncles that lived in east Texas was born in Tennessee in 1893 and could remember the ox cart wagons they rode to east Texas and Austin, He remembered the state capital building still under construction.
They eventually moved back to east Texas tho. My father grew up in Dallas and would ride his bicycle 110 miles to east Texas to live and work on the farm with them, I'd go down there when I was a kid.
My father was in the army air corp in WWII and after that was over my grandfather had been buying some land here in Oklahoma and my dad came up here and it's where I was born.
We lived in a house then that was built on the very spot where the house I'm in now is at

East isn’t what I’m concerned about. South is more the issue. I figure I’ll probably entering the state from the Northeast.

Yes. It's not really along your most direct route to LBL.

We've camped there a few times. It's a really nice part of the state. It's got some awesome hiking and your almost guaranteed to see some black bears. So make sure you carry an air horn or some bear spray. They are really active around Sept. We love to go on fall break. We didn't go last year because the year before it got down in the 20s at night and my wife froze haha. But we love it there.

Do we want to stay together as a group over the weekend, or break off in to groups based on what people want to do?

@Uncle Gump are you doing Pizza this year? Saturday night?

I've updated the event page with information about the Scavenger Hunt and:

Yes... Pizza

I think Saturday works best.

I hope the pizza crew is with me again this year.
